Kelantan will host the first leg of the Malaysia FA Cup semifinals when they face Kedah FA at Kota Bharu this Saturday. Playing in the notorious Sultan Muhammad IV stadium, Kedah have to work hard to tame the Red Warriors in their fortress.
Mohamad Ghaddar, Norsyahrul Idlan Talaha and Khairul Fahmi Che Mat return to strengthen the Kelantan squad after missing several games. Ghaddar has proven his capability to score as he has netted five times to inspire the Red Warrior to wins against Arema Indonesia FC. He also scored the winning goal in Kelantan on his second debut against PBKT T-Team last Tuesday.
Norsyahrul however, has played a substitutes role in the last few games as he needs to regain his match fitness having not played for two months. Playing against Kedah this weekend, Bojan Hodak could possibly give Norsyahrul a starting spot, alongside Mohamad Ghaddar.
Kelantan have won all of the FA Cup matches this season, so they will be in confident mood going into this match.
In the last meeting with Kelantan, Kedah suffered a 3-0 defeat back in Alor Setar so a win against the Red Warriors will be certainly be sweet revenge. The Canaries also have the likes of Baddrol Bakhtiar, Mohd Khyril Muhymeen, Mohd Fauzi Nan, Amar Rohidan, V. Thirumurugan, Mohd Faizal Abu Bakar and Mohd Sabree Abu who could cause trouble for Kelantan.
Kedah’s new striker Vedran Gerc is also starting to make an impact for the team after scoring two goals in their last fixture against Sarawak in Kuching last Tuesday. He will surely hassle Kelantan’s defense and could scored a couple of goals.
Throughout this season’s competition, both teams have had really good results as they didn’t lose a single game. Kedah and Kelantan have already shown how lethal they are on the pitch and how eager they are to win this competition.
For the record, Kelantan have never won the Malaysia FA Cup since it was introduced in 1990. However, they have been in the final twice in the last three years, losing to Selangor and Terengganu. As for the Canaries, they are intent on winning this competition for the fourth time.
