M. ter Stegen
Fantastic as a shot-stopper, he made an incredible save from Gomez early, and another fine block from Alaba before half-time. Made a nice save from Robben in the second half, and was fast off his line to stop Gomez later on. From crosses he was less convincing, however: twice in the first half-hour he came off his line and failed to get a touch. And to his dismay, he failed to save a single penalty.
Faced perhaps the most scintillating winger in Europe and stuck to Ribery all game. Only for a couple moments late in the first half did the Frenchman have enough room to provide his characteristic passes - otherwise, Jantschke had his number.
Better than Nordtveit with the ball at his feet, the Schalke-bound midfielder played an excellent ball through to Reus, who should have scored early. But the 24-year-old still was not very effective in the pass, and nearly gave the game away in extra time as he conceded possession to Robben.
Played with the tactical discipline to keep Robben quiet in wide areas, but still found his chances to bomb forward. Stung Neuer's gloves on 35 minutes when he might have been wiser to pass to Hanke. Great work from the veteran in defence, and as always, he converted his penalty in the shoot-out.
Absolutely no replacement for Herrmann on the flank, the Swede offered precious little in attack, and wasted a couple opportunities to give dangerous crosses. Substituted with 30 minutes left in normal time.
Defended extremely well in the centre during his time on the pitch, leaving Gomez frustrated. Made a brilliant tackle to deny the Germany international on 60 minutes, but came up limping and was forced to be withdrawn.
Formed a strong partnership with Stranzl, and later Brouwers, in the centre, and had a couple chances at the offensive end. However, he missed one header over the bar, and critically, blasted his penalty off target in the shoot-out.
Had arguably the best chance of the game for his side, but missed a sitter on 49 minutes. Played a couple outstanding passes, including one that sent Reus through on goal with six minutes left in normal time.
Played well without the ball, but far too often succumbed to the pressure of the Bayern midfield as he relinquished possession even moments after he won it. Things went from bad to worse in the shoot-out, when he had his spot-kick saved.
Had keen instincts and made all the right runs, but offered precious little quality with the ball at his feet. Never came close to scoring, and was hooked with a quarter of an hour left in regulation time.
Was forced to be patient, but proved to be a real danger on occasions. Played some glorious passes in the opening sequences, and twice was one-on-one with Neuer, but each time was foiled by the Germany No. 1.
Made two brilliant one-on-one saves from Reus and handled crosses very well. It must be noted that he did make a mistake, however, in coming off his line and getting caught in no-man's land early in the second half. Showed his class in the penalty shoot-out as he denied Nordtveit.
Did well to stop Wendt, Herrmann, and occasionally Reus on the wing. Did very well in support of the attack, and forced a fine save from Ter Stegen before half-time.
Apart from one instance in which he conceded a free-kick to Hanke, the Germany international did very well. Kept Hanke quiet and was quick to come to his team-mates' aid.
Made an excellent intervention early, but was nearly punished later when he slammed a clearance off Brouwers that could have gone anywhere. Had less and less to do as the game wore on, but was up to the task when needed.
Played a great cross to set up Gomez early, but was not always at his best defensively. Arango had a few good forays and there was at times room for the Gladbach attack to advance on his flank. Not a bad display, but not quite up to par with the level he has shown recently.
Brilliantly set up Robben and Alaba with clear chances late in the first half, but neither could finish. Otherwise had no joy on the wing as Jantschke nullified him. To his credit, he had a window in the closing seconds as he set up Petersen, but the striker failed to convert.
Should have opened the scoring on 40 minutes, and ought to have done better with a pair of opportunities early in the second half. Grew fatigued, but caught a second wind in the latter stages of injury time and he had a piledriver of a volley saved.
Came as close as any Bayern player to scoring: his early shot from the edge of the D clanged off the inside of the post. Played a few excellent passes from deep in midfield, but was rather anonymous for long spells.
Cheaply conceded possession a couple times, and was guilty of far too many fouls - he could have been sent off on another day.
Was very unlucky to have his header saved on the quarter hour mark, and afterward saw very, very little of the ball. Nearly had a chance to win it on 81 minutes, but was pushed wide by Ter Stegen. Replaced by Olic during extra time
Played well in deep areas, but his only telling ball of the game was a back-heel to Robben on 49 minutes. Absolutely stifled in possession in the centre, and was substituted for the second half of extra time.
- C. Heimeroth
Replaced the injured Stranzl on the hour mark, and filled in very well for his fallen team-mate. Bayern were perhaps fatigued for much of the time that he played, but the Dutchman did not give away any chances on goal.
Replaced Wendt for the second hour of the game, and battled hard despite having only weeks earlier broken his clavicle. He was somewhat rusty on his return, though, and once the Nordtveit and Neustadter lost their legs, he had very little support.
- T. Marx
- A. Ring
- M. Leckie
I. de Camargo
Came on for Hanke in the 75th minute and was equally ineffective. A disappointing show from the striker, who could have done so much better.

- D. Contento
- A. Tymoshchuk
- D. Pranjić
Replaced Muller mid-way through extra time and proved just why his minutes have been so limited this season. Was given an easy chance to win it at the death, but slipped and fell.
Replaced Gomez for the final 20 minutes of added time and fought hard for the ball, but never saw himself with a chance on goal. Unfortunate to be denied by the offside flag on one occasion.
