A slip-up for Kelantan over the weekend at Sarawak meant Kelantan now trail league leaders LionsXII by three points, though they still have two games in hand.
LionsXII meanwhile had ensured that they were the ones keeping the pace with a hard-fought 1-0 win over neighbours Johor.
On Tuesday night they will be playing hosts to Norizan Bakar's Perak at Jalan Besar Stadium.
A 2-1 win earlier in the season at Perak Stadium against a side that looked to be challenging for the title and was labelled the best team in the league by V.Sundramoorthy, had strengthened the credentials of the fledgling team.
For Perak, the defeat set off a run of four matches without a win, including three consecutive defeats, that only ended last weekend with a 2-1 win against a weak Kuala Lumpur side.
The poor form of forward Lazar Popovic has also been of concern with the Serbian looking likely to get the boot by the end of the transfer window.
The striker woes of LionsXII meanwhile look to have ended despite a string of untimely injuries.
Khairul Nizam's second strike in as many games on Saturday was the winning goal at Pasir Gudang Stadium, and the forward has quickly eased into the target man cum poacher role.
An injury setback earlier in the season had robbed the former Courts Young Lions player of the opportunity to make an impact sooner but since returning and replacing the injured Sufian Anuar, Khairul has looked perfectly in sync with his team-mates.
