Player Ratings: AC Milan 2-1 Novara

Goal.com casts a studious eye over the performers at San Siro as a late Pippo Inzaghi goal ended the Rossoneri's season on a high

    Marco Amelia

Never really forced out of his comfort zone, but could have done a better job of organising his defence on set plays.

    Philippe Mexes

Unconvincing defending for the most part during Milan’s first-half abomination. Stepped out a few times to challenge Rigoni but was always found wanting. Recovered slightly after the break.

Djamel Mesbah Flop of the Match

Forgettable game, as his mind seemed to wander at multiple points throughout the match, probably towards his plans for the summer.

  • Gianluca Zambrotta

    Gianluca Zambrotta

Decent game in both halves of the field, not seriously tested defensively while supporting the attack in the second half, even with fatigue starting to creep into his game.

    Mario Alberto Yepes

One or two crucial interceptions did not always make up for his lack of positional nous shown. Poor marking on set pieces in the first half.

  • Gennaro Ivan Gattuso

    Gennaro Ivan Gattuso

Charged about with purpose on his final appearance for the Rossoneri, but was caught out often during the first half. He improved after the break though, and was able to control the midfield in his normal fashion.

  • Clarence Seedorf

    Clarence Seedorf

A game of two halves for the Dutchman on his Milan swansong. Was as awful as anyone during the first 45, but played like a man possessed after the break, constantly initiating attacks with his driving runs and passing. His lovely ball to find Inzaghi for the winner was a throwback to the glory days.

  • Alberto Aquilani

    Alberto Aquilani

Abject passing and static play in the attacking third defined his time on the pitch. He was one of the main culprits for Milan’s terrible first half.

  • Kevin-Prince Boateng

    Kevin-Prince Boateng

Lasted only 11 minutes before pulling up with a knock.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Unconvincing, like most of his side, during the first half, but looked more like his old self after the break with some decent hold up play. Saw a late chance for a goal go begging.

  • Antonio Cassano

    Antonio Cassano

Huffed and puffed, but looked like coming up empty. However, he set up Flamini for the equaliser with some good work out wide before departing in the second half.

Made his time on the pitch count with the all-important equalising goal.

Filippo Inzaghi Top of the Match

One could not hope for a more fairytale parting, as the veteran striker waved goodbye with a classic poacher’s effort that won the game for Milan.

    Alberto Maria Fontana

Two decent stops to keep out Milan in the second half, and could not do much about both goals.

  • Giuseppe Gemiti

    3.00

    Giuseppe Gemiti

Caused one or two problems whenever he looked to stretch play in the channels, but his influence on the game waned as the match wore on.

  • Andrea Lisuzzo

    3.00

    Andrea Lisuzzo

Handled the threat of Cassano well for most of the opening half, but came under increased pressure after the break, and made a shaky finish.

  • Michel Morganella

    Michel Morganella

Like the rest of his defenders, strong in the first half, suspect in the second. The drop in his performance really summed up the efforts of his team.

  • Santiago García
    0
    0
    3.00

    Santiago García

Scored the first goal of the game after being left in space by Milan, and constantly got in good positions whenever he ventured forward into the attacking third for a Novara set piece.

  • Matteo Centurioni
    0
    0
    3.00

    Matteo Centurioni

Was the weak link at the back during the second half as he was clearly not in sync with the rest of his defenders, allowing Milan players past him with regularity.

  • Marco Rigoni
    2
    0
    3.00

    Marco Rigoni

Stood out as the most determined player in the attacking third of the pitch. His set pieces were a constant menace to the Milan defence, with one delivery leading to Garcia’s opener. He did not shy away from taking on the Rossoneri defence, and nearly added a stunner himself in the second half. Always looking to make something happen.

  • Filippo Porcari

    3.00

    Filippo Porcari

Facilitated Novara well on the counter with some intelligent passing from deep in his own half. Was given the runaround at times in the second half as he began to tire out though.

  • Simone Pesce

    Simone Pesce

Always quick to close down the likes of Seedorf and Aquilani whenever they had possession. Looked committed to winning back possession for his team.

  • Jeda
    0
    0
    2.50

    Jeda

Showed a few decent touches to link up with his team-mates in the attacking third, but never looked close to getting his name on the scoresheet.

  • Andrea Caracciolo

    Andrea Caracciolo

Missed a pair of good chances, both from deliveries by the lively Rigoni. Taken off just past the hour mark, with it not appearing to be his day.

Did not improve things much in his spell on the pitch.
