Live Commentary

  • That wraps up our coverage of this fifth-round FA Cup tie - we hope you enjoyed it. Until next time, from me Tim Poole, it's goodbye!
  • The end result of it all is that Roberto Martinez can still defend the trophy he won last year! For Swansea, meanwhile, there will be no more cup football this season, giving Garry Monk the chance to focus solely on their Premier League campaign.
  • It's Everton who join Manchester City, Wigan Athletic and Sunderland in the last eight of the FA Cup, then, after goals from Lacina Traore, Steven Naismith and Leighton Baines (who scored a penalty). Jonathan de Guzman had cancelled out Traore's opener for Swansea City but two second-half goals went unanswered for the hosts.
  • FULL-TIME: Everton 3-1 Swansea City
  • 90' + 2'
Visitors Swansea also showed flashes of brilliance during the first half but a tepid second-half performance has let them down. Individual errors, too, have cost them, after Taylor provided an assist for the wrong team during Naismith's opener, while Richards produced a poor challenge for the penalty.
  • 90' + 1'
But Everton haven't. Indeed, Baines, Mirallas, Barkley, Coleman, Naismith, Pienaar and pretty much everyone else in a blue shirt has impressed today. It has been a vibrant performance from the home side and they fully deserve their place in the quarter-finals.
  • 90'
Four minutes of added time are given! Swansea look for a second to make things interesting as a cross comes into the penalty area - but Lita cannot get a strong header behind the ball. He has been disappointing since coming on.
  • 88'
Well, now Naismith does come off - but not as part of a substitution. Martinez is not taking any chances if there is the possibility of the Scot suffering concussion and rightly so from the Spaniard. It shows a different approach to Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham after Hugo Lloris clashed with Romelu Lukaku earlier in the season.
  • 87'
    SubstitutionKevin Mirallas Gerard Deulofeu
  • 87'
    Yellow Card Leroy Lita
  • 87'
    Yellow Card José Cañas
  • 87'
CHANGE! Deulofeu comes on - but not for Naismith. The Scot is okay to continue and Mirallas makes way. Meanwhile, Robles shows quick feet to skip the other way under slight pressure from Lita.
  • 86'
In fact, Jose Canas' reaction to McCarthy on the floor was what enraged them, as a fight almost broke out between the players. Both Canas and Lita were booked as a result of the fracas.
  • 85'
A mistake from McCarthy creates drama, however! Leroy Lita pounces and lunges in to try and steal the ball off the midfielder. He is late with the challenge, though, and some of the Everton players are not pleased!
  • 84'
The forward now returns to action but will be replaced by Gerard Deulofeu, anyway. Everton's midfielders, meanwhile, look to keep possession and see the remaining minutes out without too much drama.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Jordi Amat
  • 82'
Martinez is taking advice on whether he should replace the striker, although Naismith is now back up. He was hit in the jaw by Amat and was visibly shocked by the contact. Play continues with Everton down to 10 men for now.
  • 80'
Amat is now booked after fouling Naismith. Swansea look as though they just want to go home. Naismith, however, is yet to get back up and seems in some pain.
  • 78'
Everton now win a succession of corners, which Swansea seem intent on preventing through the use of force! Constant pushing and shoving ends with Phil Jagielka heading wide. Much ado about nothing.
  • 76'
This has been a comprehensive enough performance from the Toffees, despite admirable resistance from the Swans. The visitors have definitely dipped since half-time, though, and Taylor's error to let Naismith in for Everton's second goal signalled a definitive switch in momentum.
  • 74'
Everton look to be on their way to the quarter-finals. They reached the FA Cup final under David Moyes, of course, but were beaten by Chelsea. Could Martinez take them that step further?
  • 72'
    Penalty Goal Leighton Baines
GOAL! Baines hits the ball straight to his right, as Tremmel goes the other way! Everton now lead 3-1 and that looks to be game over as the England man tucks home yet another penalty!
  • 71'
PENALTY! Everton's progress down the left bears fruit as Jazz Richards pulls Naismith down after the Scot is played in by Baines inside the box. Baines will take the spot-kick.
  • 70'
Can Swansea get back into this? They have used up all their substitutions and find themselve a goal down to an Everton side high who look high on confidence. Here the Toffees come again down the left, with Pienaar, Baines and Naismith linking up well...
  • 69'
    SubstitutionRoland Lamah Leroy Lita
  • 67'
And they almost do! Coleman beats his man down the right and sends a great ball into the area once more, which Mirallas can only blast over the bar!
  • 66'
It's a shame for Swansea that Everton's second has come from such an unnecessary error at the back - and Everton look keen to go and get a third now!
  • 65'
    Goal Steven Naismith
GOALLL! Naismith puts Everton 2-1 up! A nightmare backpass from Taylor puts the ball into Naismith's path, after the left-back hit the ball across his defence without even looking. The Scot nips in and tucks a neat finish past Tremmel, with the goalkeeper yards off his line. Easy goal!
  • 63'
CHANCE! The Toffees take the ball out to the left but then switch it back to the right flank, as Coleman and Mirallas combine. Full-back Coleman then beats Lamah and sends a wonderful cross into the penalty box. Pienaar is there to head it goalwards at the back post but the ball sails just wide!
  • 62'
The intensity has dropped now, however, and both sides will be looking at an extra match on their fixture lists if they aren't careful. A foul from Williams now gives Everton a free kick in the Swansea half.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionLacina Traore Steven Naismith
  • 61'
    SubstitutionRoss Barkley Leon Osman
  • 59'
That has hardly helped the home fans with their frustrations. Two changes are being made now. Osman comes on, while Steven Naismith also replaces Traore. A fine debut from the Ivorian.
  • 58'
A great long ball from Traore now finds Mirallas but the Belgian loses it without a fight, as the Everton fans jeer in frustration. The Toffees win possession back, though, and Barkley surges into the penalty area, with his cross deflected behind. But neither the referee nor the linesman give the corner!
  • 56'
Leon Osman looks as though he is getting ready to come on as Martinez looks to explore different tactical alternatives. Monk, meanwhile, has already used two substitutions today.
  • 54'
Both sides look eager to get a winning goal at Goodison Park, with there still being a high intensity to this clash. Neither team will want a replay, considering their busy Premier league schedules, but who can go on to get the winner here?
  • 52'
And now the Toffees win a corner after Mirallas puts Taylor under pressure. The Belgian links up well with Baines from the set-piece but a Swansea tackle eventually prevents what would have been a great move. After a swift counterattack, Dyer completely mishits his shot for the visitors and it goes off for a goal kick.
  • 51'
FOUL! Coleman brings Hernandez down, although it looks unintentionally, as the Everton full-back turns and backs into the Swansea man, who then goes down. Free kick given but wasted immediately!
  • 49'
SAVE! Barkley gets forward and takes a shot just outside the area yet again! This one is low and on target - but Tremmel dives down to his right to save it. The sun is shining at Goodison Park and the Swansea goalkeeper has been forced to wear a cap.
  • 48'
Everton have made a bright start to the half, just as they did at the beginning of the match. Some adventurous low passes have almost set Mirallas free in the penalty area, although they were just out of the Belgian's reach.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionWayne Routledge Nathan Dyer
  • 46'
Swansea get us started for the second half! They've made a change, with Nathan Dyer replacing Wayne Routledge, which is not an injury-enforced substitution.
  • Both sides have passed well, defended well and performed impressively overall, meaning it's all to play for in the second half!
  • Swansea had the first real chance of the game, Alvaro Vazquez hesitating one-on-one with Joel Robles, and were duly punished when Lacina Traore skilfully gave Everton the lead minutes later. The visitors hit back, though, after Jonathan de Guzman got on the end of Neil Taylor's cross and headed home the equaliser.
  • So a great half of FA Cup football comes to an end with no one any closer to knowing who will go through. Drama!
  • HALF-TIME: Everton 1-1 Swansea City
  • 45' + 1'
The free kick is curled into the area but a delicate flick on it can't direct it past Tremmel. Everton work the ball forward once again moments later but Swansea are once again untroubled at the back. It's been a very even half.
  • 45'
Two minutes of added time are given and Everton win a free kick! Coleman received the ball down the right-hand side and knocked it past Neil Taylor with ease. The Swansea captain duly brought him down, knowing he would have been free to enter the danger area.
  • 43'
Back up the other end it goes, with Barkley now having another run at goal and reaching the edge of the penalty area. He duly unleashed a shot towards Tremmel's left - but it flashed just wide of the post.
  • 42'
That wasn't too worrying! Swansea dealt with the pressure well and worked their way up the left-hand side. There, Lamah took the ball of the half-volley and sent an ambitious shot towards the near post, where Robles was forced into a save. Moments later, Lamah sent another dangerous cross into the area - but Vazquez couldn't get onto the end of it.
  • 40'
Incessant pressure from the hosts now as they look to retake the lead before the break. Swansea clear their lines once again but can only resort to thumping it off for a throw-in. Worrying times for the away side?
  • 39'
WHAT A SAVE! It was the Belgian Mirallas who took the free kick, stepping in from the left and curling it to the right of the wall. Tremmel was there on the stretch, though, diving wonderfully to save it. Now, Everton have a corner after whipping the ball back in and seeing it cleared.
  • 38'
Everton break quickly down the other end, though, and a foul just outside the penalty area now gives them the perfect chance to regain the lead! Baines, Barkley and Mirallas stand over the ball...
  • 37'
OFFSIDE! Swansea have some more joy as they pass the ball around fluently just outside the  penalty area. The move breaks down when an offside flag is raised against Vazquez, though.
  • 35'
But the visitors now get the ball down on the ground, where they prefer it. Lamah is played in down the left, though his subsequent cross into the penalty area evades everyone and goes off for a goal kick.
  • 34'
The home side have looked comfortable in possession in the last few minutes and Swansea have been forced to resort to knocking it long! They did so just now, with Vazquez actually chasing a long clearance down and attempting to lift it over Robles. However, from about 30 yards out, it was a tough shot to take on and it went off for a goal kick.
  • 32'
GREAT PASS! Mirallas looks to find Traore from about 50 yards away and almost does with a great low pass. However, after it is cleared for a throw-in, Everton can't capitalise and Swansea clear their lines.
  • 31'
    SubstitutionKyle Bartley Ashley Williams
  • 30'
But now Bartley has exacerbated his initial injury, with Williams coming on to replace him. Unfortunately, Bartley's eagerness to continue might mean his hamstring injury is now a lot worse than it first was.
  • 29'
And they almost work a breakthrough! Pienaar receives the ball in the box twice, the first time being denied by Tremmel after running all the way towards the near post. The second time, his header from a few yards away is caught by the Swansea goalkeeper.
  • 28'
Indeed, the defender does carry on - and that is a boost for Swansea, as he has been terrific so far. Everton now try to work the ball forward down the right-hand side. They've had a lot of joy down that flank with Mirallas and Coleman.
  • 27'
Injury worries for the away side now, however, as Kyle Bartley is forced off the pitch. He is able to get to his feet, although Ashley Williams is readied on the touchline. It looks as though Bartley does want to continue.
  • 25'
WIDE! The hosts break straight up the other end and Mirallas, who has been impressive so far today, ends up with the ball on the right-hand side, flashing the ball across goal as it goes just wide of the far post.
  • 24'
MISTAKE! Barkley is dispossessed in his own half and the visitors surge forward as a result. Lamah and Vazquez are pivotal as they exchange passes in and around the box but Swansea cannot capitalise, with the Toffees returning to defend in time.
  • 23'
This game has been a good advert for the FA Cup so far! There have been chances galore and some of the passing on show has been nothing short of exquisite.
  • 21'
CHANCE! What an opening for Everton! Baines surges down the left-hand side and sends a low cross into Pienaar. The South African then almost atones for his earlier error, clipping the ball into the air and onto the post! On the rebound, a Traore header is denied by Tremmel.
  • 19'
The Toffees move forward now, though, as James McCarthy plays the ball to Barkley, who almost sends a delicious through-ball into the box. It does reach the box - but travels too far as Gerhard Tremmel collects it comfortably.
  • 18'
Interestingly, Swansea are now in control in terms of possession. How will Martinez's men respond? They were the superior side in the opening stages but they have just been a little too slow in responding to the away side's quick, dangerous passing.
  • 17'
The away side have been terrific in these last few minutes and we're back to it being all square. All of their momentum for the goal, however, stemmed from that initial Pienaar error.
  • 16'
    Assist Neil Taylor
  • 16'
    Goal Jonathan De Guzmán
GOAL! De Guzman equalises! Robles saved the initial corner but his throw gifted possession straight back to the visitors. They worked their way forward patiently and a great cross into the penalty area was met by a stunning De Guzman header. Suddenly, the Swans look very confident indeed.
  • 13'
Leighton Baines now shows his strength at the back as he ends a Swansea attack abruptly with a great challenge down the left-hand side. However, confusion from Steven Pienaar then gives Swansea a corner! The ball was being played around at the back and the South African just lost control and chipped a wayward pass out for the corner.
  • 12'
Another encouraging move from Mirallas! The Belgian takes up possession in the Swansea half and looks to find Seamus Coleman with an adventurous through-ball. However, it is overhit and goes off for a goal kick.
  • 11'
The Toffees look utterly dominant so far, although Hernandez has been the one bright spark for the Swans. His passing is a sight to behold, although so too is a full-steam Barkley charging at Swansea defenders!
  • 10'
Hernandez shows his effectiveness for the visitors once again, though, as another great through ball sets up Lamah, who then almost tees up Vazquez. Robles is out to deny the striker, however, before Everton work their way straight upfield. There, Kevin Mirallas is denied after a promising run into the box.
  • 8'
CHANCE! Barkley now gets forward once again - it was he who won the free kick for Everton's first goal - running towards the penalty area from midfield and flashing a low shot just across the face of goal. This has been a particularly bright start from Martinez's men.
  • 6'
A very composed opening goal might just have set the tone for this tie, then, although Swansea could just as easily have been celebrating moments earlier. They most certainly will regret that Vazquez chance now, while Everton will be quietly confident of the impact Traore can have for them this season.
  • 5'
    Assist Sylvain Distin
  • 5'
    Goal Lacina Traore
GOAL! Traore scores for Everton! What a way to mark his debut. The free kick is played into Sylvain Distin, who has to fight for the ball in the box after losing possession with his initial header. He smartly wins it back and squares it across the box, however, and Traore is there to slickly back-heel the ball into the back of the net!
  • 3'
The Everton defenders probably weren't expecting that - what a start by the visitors. Might they rue wasting that chance, though? Everton have looked comfortable in possession in the minutes since, with Ross Barkley winning a free kick in the Swansea half after a foul from Wayne Routledge.
  • 2'
CHANCE! A great chance for Swansea already! Pablo Hernandez plays a superb through ball that splits the Everton defence open and Vazquez is through on goal. Instead of shooting, however, he rounds Robles and hesitates, passing to Lamah, who fluffs his finish.
  • 1'
Everton start us off, as Traore gets his first touch in a Toffees shirt!
  • A minute's silence is observed at Goodison Park prior to kick-off, in honour of Sir Tom Finney, who died at the age of 91 this week.
  • The players are out onto the field of play: we're almost ready!
  • Kick-off is 10 minutes away and we'll be bringing you absolutely all the action.
  • Manchester City, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic (!) are already through to the quarter-finals. Which one of these two sides will join them?
  • Martinez's significance in today's game is rather astounding, with the Spaniard facing his former side in the competition he himself won last year. But it doesn't end there, of course, with the 40-year-old beating Everton at this very ground on his way to winning the FA Cup last year!
  • However, Swansea boss Monk has fielded a considerably different line-up to the side that started their last league game - a 1-1 draw with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. In come the likes of Jordi Amat, Roland Lamah and Alvaro Vazquez.
  • Two very interesting line-ups named by both managers, then, as Martinez leaves Tim Howard on the bench but gives January-signing Lacina Traore his debut - a striker who stands over two metres in height.
  • Swansea City subs: Vorm, Williams, Tiendalli, Britton, Dyer, Bony, Lita.
  • Swansea City starting line-up: Tremmel; Richards, Bartley, Amat, Taylor; Canas, De Guzman, Hernandez, Routledge, Lamah; Vazquez.
  • Everton subs: Howard, Stones, Hibbert, McGeady, Deulofeu, Naismith, Osman.
  • Everton starting line-up: Robles; Baines, Jagielka, Distin, Coleman; McCarthy, Barry, Mirallas, Pienaar, Barkley; Traore.
  • Today's fifth-round tie sees Roberto Martinez - the man who won last year's FA Cup with Wigan Athletic - face another of his former clubs in Swansea. Intriguingly, the Spaniard named Garry Monk as Swansea captain during his time at the Liberty Stadium. Monk is now in charge of the Swans as interim manager.
  • Good afternoon and welcome to live-text commentary of Everton against Swansea City in the FA Cup! We've already seen three classic cup ties this weekend and now it's time for another. A place in the quarter-finals is at stake, so it's everything to play for. Stay with us for all the action!
