Player Ratings: Norwich City 1-3 Chelsea

Late goals from substitutes Eden Hazard and Willian hand Jose Mourinho's men their first win on the road in the Premier League after Anthony Pilkington had drawn the hosts level

By Theo Squires at Carrow Road

  • John Ruddy

    John Ruddy

A shaky performance in goal from the man whose eyes are on Joe Hart's England jersey. A diving save denied Ba from doubling Chelsea's lead early on, but was fortunate not to be punished after failing to claim a couple of high balls and could easily have been sent off for a challenge on Ba. Could do nothing about Willian's goal but should have done better with Hazard's effort.

  • Russell Martin

    Russell Martin

A solid showing, dealt exceptionally well with the threat of Schurrle, restricting the German to three shots at goal.

  • S. Bassong

    S. Bassong

A rock at the back, was often on hand to clear when Norwich needed him most, never more so than when Ba got the better of Ruddy midway through the first half.

  • Michael Turner

    Michael Turner

Equally as impressive as his defensive partner, and he will be pleased with his performance as Norwich managed to frustrate Chelsea.

  • Martin Olsson

    Martin Olsson

Delivered the cross that helped create Norwich's equaliser. Oscar got the better of him a number of times but he did well to limit Mata's impact.

  • Robert Snodgrass

    Robert Snodgrass

Could have given his side the lead only to fall flat on his backside in the second half. Withdrawn immediately afterwards.

  • Jonny Howson

    Jonny Howson

Deserved his place in the side and was a major reason for Norwich's improved performance in the second half.

  • Leroy Fer

    2
    3.00

    Leroy Fer

Solid in the midfield once again. Looked composed when under pressure in the centre of the pitch and his distribution was often positive.

  • Anthony Pilkington

    3.50

    Anthony Pilkington

Struggled to get the better of Ivanovic on the right flank but popped up ahead of Luiz inside Chelsea's box to head the ball beyond Cech for Norwich's equaliser.

  • Alexander Tettey

Alexander Tettey Flop of the Match

At fault for Chelsea's second as his poor clearance fell straight into the path of Hazard. Despite his error, he looked strong throughout the second half as Norwich seemed destined to hold out for a point.

  • Ricky van Wolfswinkel

    Ricky van Wolfswinkel

Was always going to find it tough against Luiz and Terry but performed admirably. Did well to win the header against Terry for Norwich's equaliser. Shooting was often wayward.

Substitutions

    Nathan Redmond

Shown promise the brief time he was on the pitch. Could have created a winner for Norwich, but was outshone by Mourinho's substitutions.

  • Gary Hooper

    Gary Hooper

Came on with his side level and did very little as Chelsea pushed for a winner. Barely involved.

  • Petr Cech

    Petr Cech

Had little to do and should really have kept out Norwich's equaliser.

  • Branislav Ivanovic

    2.50

    Branislav Ivanovic

Failed to cut out Olsson's cross for Norwich's equaliser but the 29-year-old got forward often to help out Oscar and Mata.

  • Ashley Cole

    3
    2.50

    Ashley Cole

Struggled against Van Wolfswinkel at times and failed to support the attack. Was withdrawn after Norwich equalised as Chelsea pressed for a winner.

  • David Luiz

    2.50

    David Luiz

Was unlucky not to double his side's lead with a spectacular effort from the half-way line, but will not be happy after Pilkington got ahead of him for Norwich's equaliser.

  • John Terry
    8
    0
    2.50

    John Terry

Was beaten too easily in the air by Van Wolfswinkel in the build-up to Norwich's equaliser. Other than that a solid performance from the centre-back, as the Canaries struggled to create in front of goal.

  • Ramires
    8

    3.00

    Ramires

Provided a dangerous cross into the box early in the second half which Ba was unable to convert. Covered a lot of ground for Mourinho's side and looked comfortable when distributing the ball.

  • Frank Lampard

    3.00

    Frank Lampard

Didn't get forward as often he would have liked but looked solid alongside Ramires which allowed Oscar to flourish further in front.

  • Oscar

    3.50

    Oscar Top of the Match

His superb drilled finish gave Mourinho's men the lead and the Brazilian was a constant threat on the ball throughout. Also played a vital part in Chelsea's second and third goals.

  • Juan Mata
    8
    2
    2.50

    Juan Mata

Still adjusting to his new role which sees him interchange with Oscar. The Spaniard struggled at times to get involved, but was his usual majestic self when on the ball. Would be more influential if placed in the centre.

  • Andre Schürrle
    8
    1
    2.50

    Andre Schürrle

Following his mesmerising performance in the Champions League, much was expected of Schurrle, however, after a bright start he faded quickly, and apart from a curling effort off-target, the German failed to offer much in attack.

  • Demba Ba
    13
    0
    3.00

    Demba Ba

A surprise starter, Ba justified his inclusion by setting up Oscar's opener after just four minutes. Was unlucky not to score, with Ruddy desperate to deny him. Barely involved in the second half and was replaced by Eto'o.

Substitutions

  • Eden Hazard

    Eden Hazard

Won the game for Chelsea. Came on with his side needing a goal and delivered just that.

  • Willian
    15

    Willian

Scored a delightful goal after coming on to replace Mata late on to wrap up the points for Chelsea. An inspired substitution.

  • Samuel Eto'o

    2.50

    Samuel Eto'o

Made little impact after replacing Ba, but it was his blocked effort that fell kindly to Willian which provided us with the game's best strike.
