Rodrigo Tosi took center stage as Brunei DPMM beat Harimau Muda 3-1 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Wednesday night to register their first home win since a 3-2 win over Home United on May 5.

The Brazilian's two goals and great hold-up play helped DPMM salvage some pride after they failed to retain the League Cup on Saturday.

It has not been the best couple of months for DPMM, who have failed to recreate the form that saw them crowned League Cup champions and challenge Tampines Rovers until the final day for the S.League title last season.

One of the main reasons for that is the merry-go-round of imports that have come and left the club, with Joao Moreira and Arturas Rimkevicius, who only signed in June, the latest foreigners to face the axe.

Not much was expected of the Sultanate's only professional club, with so few fans in attendance that you could hear a pin drop. The players' confidence were at an all-time low after heavy defeats against Tampines Rovers (6-2) and Balestier Khalsa (4-0) in the League Cup final, and a sluggish opening 15 minutes was evidence of that.

Akmal Ishak had Harimau Muda in front after just six minutes, heading home a corner that DPMM coach Vjeran Simunic would later claim to be a Pg Salehuddin Damit own goal after a foul on the veteran.

It was a while before the hosts got the ball rolling, quite literally, but they eventually found themselves back on level terms in the 27th minute.

Shahrulrizal Abd Rahman's stray clearance found Azwan Ali Rahman, who cut inside before floating a ball into the center for Shahrazen Said.

Syawal Nordin made a vital interception but his header was too high and failed to clear the box, allowing Tosi to set himself and strike the ball sweetly first time, catching Hafizul Hakim flat-footed as he found the bottom corner.

The goal gave the 30-year-old even more confidence, so much so that he had the audacity to try and lob Hafizul from 40 yards out. The Harimau Muda shot-stopper, however, got back onto his line in time to clutch the ball to his chest gratefully.

Shahrulrizal was walking on thin ice and was substituted just before the break for Abdul Aziz Tamit as a precaution. Little did Simunic know what a change it would turn out to be.

The 24-year-old has rarely featured for his club this season, but he certainly made a case for himself when he rose well above the rest to meet Rosmin Kamis's corner in the 54th minute to give the Wasps the lead.

They never looked back from there and made it 3-1 in the 71st minute after Tosi had done well to beat a few defenders before being brought down in the box, Syazwan Tajudin the culprit on this occasion.

The Brazilian stepped up to the spot, gave Hafizul the eyes and sent the 20-year-old the wrong way, coolly rolling the ball into bottom left corner.

It was the perfect response to their miserable defeat just three days earlier but with a near three-week break from the S.League due to the Sultan of Selangor's Cup and RHB Singapore Cup, this could prove to be just another one-off in a somewhat sketchy season.
