The Woodlands Wellington faithful were given a treat at Woodlands Stadium as their team emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Balestier Khalsa thanks to a brace from Moon Soon Ho, which helped them collect their first win in a month.

The home side required only five minutes to open the scoring, thanks to the Korean combination of Chang Jo Yoon and Moon. The move was started by the latter after latching onto a long ball from defence, as he then did well to spot the run of Chang on the left flank. His compatriot then sped to the byline before squaring the ball back for Moon to score his third goal of the season.

Balestier continued to be the poorer of the two sides in the match and were made to pay for their poor showing in midfield when Moon doubled the lead.

Atsushi Shimono intercepted a Balestier pass near the touchline and threaded a through ball for Moon in an instant. The 32-year-old made no mistake in the box as he sent his shot underneath the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Balestier’s best chances in the first half came in the last 10 minutes, coinciding with the introduction of Jung Hee Bong into the game.

Kim Minho’s deft backheel opened a gap for Qiu Li to explode into the box but a cleverly positioned Cho Sunghwan ensured that Qiu Li could do no damage to the Woodlands goal, as his shot went out for a corner.

The eventual corner kick saw Kim Minho’s header cleared off the line by Ang Zhi Wei, before Qiu Li’s trademark curling and dipping freekick was then assuredly palmed away by veteran goalkeeper Yazid Yasin.

The second half seemed more of an equal affair as the centre of the park saw most of the action.

A corner from Ruhaizad Ismail just after the hour mark rocked the crossbar, and Qiu could only poke the rebound out wide.

Chang then haunted his former team with a goal after cutting in at the near post to make it 3-0 for Woodlands.

Balestier's grit and determination saw them grab a consolation goal after a rebound from a save by Yazid was bundled into the goal by his own defender, but the visitors could not avoid crashing to their third consecutive defeat.
