Live Commentary

  • That's it for tonight's live coverage from Stadio Olimpico. Andrea Stramaccioni's tactical stroke means he still yet to taste victory over a Zdenek Zeman side but he has given his Inter team every chance of progression by keeping Roma's lead to just one. Thanks for joining me this evening and be sure to stick around for reports, ratings and reaction from tonight's action. Until next time, Arrivederci!
  • So not a second half to remember as both teams came out with a more sensible approach to the second half. Roma and Inter will both be satisfied with the final score but both will be ruing opportunities they had to strengthen their position ahead of round two in Milan. Piris was unplayable in the first half and laid on both the goals for Florenzi and Destro, but Palacio's consolation will give Inter belief that they can turn it around on their own patch.
  • FULL TIME; ROMA 2-1 INTER. Referee Andrea De Marco brings a tetchy second half to a close and Roma hold on to their first half lead. Stramaccioni will be pleased his side didn't concede any further goals and they still have that all important away goal to take back to the San Siro.
  • 90' + 4'
The free kick comes to nothing as no Roma player can get any meaningful purchase on Marquinho's cross.
  • 90' + 3'
Zanetti brings down Marquinho on the edge of the box and Roma have a chance to whip in one last cross here. Burdisso joins the attack for this last chance...
  • 90' + 2'
    Yellow Card Nicolas Burdisso
  • 90' + 2'
Burdisso is booked for Roma after the referee brings back play and he now too will miss the second leg. They're dropping like flies here.
  • 90'
Inter may be behind but it's Roma that are threatening to add another goal to this contest. Lamela finds space in the box but can't get his shot away as he cuts onto his left foot then seconds later Handanovic has to keep out Marquinho's effort.
  • 88'
Things are getting sloppy now. A number of loose balls in the middle of the park have stopped both sides from mounting meaningful attacks. Almost into stoppage time now.
  • 86'
    Yellow Card Erik Lamela
  • 86'
Erik Lamela is the first Roma player in the book tonight as he tangles with Juan. Time beginning to run out for Inter now.
  • 85'
    SubstitutionFrancesco Totti Marquinho
  • 85'
Once again Totti strikes it and once again its blocked. It's the captain's last contribution as well as he is replaced by midfielder Marquinho.
  • 84'
    Yellow Card Cristian Chivu
  • 84'
Nasty challenge from Chivu and he is the third Inter player to go into the book. Destro was breaking clear on goal when the Romanian chopped him down. Chance from the free kick for the hosts.
  • 81'
Chances for Inter, and good ones too. Firstly Alvarez's cut-back is taken off Cambiasso's toes by his team mate Palacio and seconds later substitute Perrotta gives the ball away and Alvarez twists and turns in the box before his low shot is blocked by Perrotta, who makes amends for his mistake.
  • 80'
Oh dear Ferdy Guarin, that will not do. The Colombian stands over a free kick in a promising position for the visitors but he gets his connection all wrong and blazes the ball into the stand behind the goal. At Stadio Olimpico, that's quite impressive.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionAlessandro Florenzi Simone Perrotta
  • 77'
Alvarez is straight into the thick of the action and almost gets Inter back on level terms immediately. The midfielder dispossesses Balzaretti deep in the Roma half and drives towards goal before curling a fine effort agonizingly wide. Roma still are by no means home and dry here.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionÁ. Pereira Ricardo Álvarez
  • 73'
Another chance for Destro as Totti clips in a cross to the far post but the forward mistimes his volley goalwards and he barely makes contact with the ball as it bounces kindly into the arms of Handanovic.
  • 71'
Things almost get even worse for the Nerazzurri from the free kick as Totti's ball into the box is missed by everyone and almost creeps inside Handanovic's post. The Slovenian wasn't going to get there.
  • 70'
    Yellow Card F. Guarín
  • 70'
Reckless challenges flying in all over the place from Inter and this one is costly. Fredy Guarin is booked for a late challenge on the left wing and he will now miss the second leg at the San Siro. Huge loss.
  • 67'
It is Totti who steps up but his effort is straight into the wall. Poor effort from the captain, you have to beat the wall from there.
  • 66'
Chivu barges into the back of Michael Bradley and gives Roma a great chance to score from a free kick. Definitely Totti range this.
  • 65'
    SubstitutionMarco Benassi W. Gargano
  • 64'
A chance for Totti to restore Roma's two goal lead but he can't take it. A cross from the left is cleared by Pereira right into his path but he fires his volley over the crossbar.
  • 61'
Bit of a break in play as goalscorer Mattia Destro is down recieving treatment. It's been a very different game in the second half. Much slower and fewer chances.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionMarquinhos Leandro Castán
  • 59'
Substitution for Roma as they make a change in defence, Leandro Castan coming on for Marquinhos.
  • 58'
Inter have to soak up a lot pressure from Totti & Co but as soon as they regain possession they break with Fredy Guarin. The Columbian again goes it alone and fires wide from the edge of the area. Disappointing from the playmaker.
  • 55'
Inter are certainly enjoying this lull in the tempo more. Palacio has started to come deep and link with the midfield which is causing problems for Zeman's men.
  • 53'
Not the same lightning paced start we had to the first half as Inter look to stifle Roma's attack. They manage to create a chance of their own though as Palacio breaks away and lays the ball back for Guarin whose shot is deflected behind for a corner.
  • 50'
Destro picks up the ball on the edge of the area and tries to squeeze it past Handanovic at his near post but the Slovenian is down smartly to hold onto the ball. Simple save.
  • 48'
Inter have indeed changed formation and they also appear to be a bit deeper. Andrea Stramaccioni was obviously alarmed by the amount of space afforded to the wings in the first half. A wise move from the Inter coach but I can hear the neutrals booing in the background.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionJ. Obi Yuto Nagatomo
  • We are just about to get back underway at Stadio Olimpico. Hopefully the pace of the first half can be recaptured in the second.
  • Roma have lifted the Coppa Italia 9 times in their history. Only Juventus has managed as many. After that first half display the Giallorossi will be thinking they have a good shot at making it yet another final. If they can start converting their chances.
  • Wow. That half was something else. Both sides are showing a complete disregard for the art of defending but it's making for a thrilling cup tie with no end of thrills and spills. Good job there's a break. I think I've lost one of my fingertips.
  • HT ROMA 2-1 INTER. That goal was virtually the last action of the half. A disappointing end to a half that Roma near enough dominated. Piris looks dangerous every time he gets on the ball and Roma are value for their lead, but they'll be wondering how they're only one goal ahead.
  • 44'
    Assist Esteban Cambiasso
  • 44'
    Goal Rodrigo Palacio
  • 41'
Inter continue to come forward and Guarin tries his luck again from the right hand side of the box. This time he drives across goal but Stekelenburg is more than equal to it and beats the shot away.
  • 40'
    Yellow Card Á. Pereira
  • 38'
HANDANOVIC GETS VERY LUCKY! A cross from the right (again!) almost catches the stopper off guard at his near post and the Slovenian has to scramble across ball to parry the ball onto the post. Almost 3-0 and game over.
  • 36'
That goal has sent the crowd nuts at Stadio Olimpico. They're a lot more relaxed after that and Roma seem more comfortable too.
  • 33'
    Assist Iván Rodrigo Piris
  • 33'
    Goal Mattia Destro
  • 31'
Half an hour gone and it seems very similar to the weekends match. Lots of chances for Roma but only one taken so far. Can Inter repeat their exploits from the weekend and level before the break?
  • 28'
Moments after Marquinhos makes a vital challenge to stop Palacio going clean through, Erik Lamela surges into the box up the other end. However he decides to go it alone instead of squaring and blazes well over Handanovic's goal.
  • 27'
Piris has been an absolute nuisance down the right tonight. He sends in another deep cross that Destro meets and heads back across goal but there's no one in the middle to get on the end of it.
  • 24'
Stekelenburg has to be quick off his line as Palacio looks to race onto a through ball. Good reactions from the Dutch keeper.
  • 21'
My fingertips are on fire after the opening 20 minutes and the action shows no sign of letting up. Neither side is afraid to attack and leave themselves vulnerable. Great news for the neutral. Bad news for my poor fingers.
  • 19'
ALMOST 2-0! A deft dummy from Destro sees the ball fall to Totti in all sorts of space but the veteran attempts to take it around Handanovic, who is able to nick the ball away from his feet. Lamela follow up is then hacked off the line!
  • 17'
As I say that Inter break down the other end to cause some trouble themselves. Palacio does well to stay onside and does even better to pick out Fredy Guarin who rattles the outside of the post with his curling effort.
  • 15'
The Giallorossi are having a lot of joy down the flanks against Inter's back three. This time Balzaretti gets into the final third from fullback to swing in a cross from the left but it's hooked away. Inter are living dangerously here.
  • 13'
    Assist Iván Rodrigo Piris
  • 13'
    Goal Alessandro Florenzi
  • 12'
Rannocchia gets up to meet a corner with his head but cannot get enough power behind it to threaten Stekelenburg's goal.
  • 10'
First real site of goal for Roma and its Destro again with the chance. He rises highest to meet Totti's cross but his flick on is straight into the hands of Handanovic.
  • 7'
No sign whatsoever! Destro gets in front of his marker at the other end to meet Ivan Piris's centre but the striker can only blaze his volley over the bar.
  • 6'
Inter break and Cambiasso eyes up the first shooting opportunity of the evening but his effort is blocked. This fast start is showing no signs of easing up.
  • 4'
Totti scored at the weekend in this fixture from the penalty spot and he's a marked man tonight. Joel Obi goes in clumsily on the Roma captain early on. I think he was just letting him know he was there.
  • 2'
A frantic start in Rome! Andrea Rannochia has to stretch out his leg to prevent Roma from creating a chance in the opening minute and Inter charge right up the other end but with no end product. Promising start.
  • 1'
We are off and running in Rome. Stramaccioni has yet to register a victory over Zeman as a coach. Tonight would be as a good a time as any to put that right.
  • The teams are out on the pitch and we're about to get underway here in the Stadio Olimpico...
  • There might be a slight sense of deja vu surrounding this fixture tonight. That's probably because the sides only met at the weekend, playing out a 1-1 draw in Rome. Could we be looking at a similar result this evening?
  • Strong line-ups from both sides, showing that both coaches want to make the final. De Rossi is still out for Roma while Cambiasso comes back in for Inter after sitting out at the weekend.
  • And here is how the visitors start; INTER: Handanovic, Zanetti, Chivu, Pereira, Ranocchia, Juan, Cambiasso, Guarin, Obi, Benassi, Palacio. SUBS: Silvestre, Alvarez, Mudingayi, Mariga, Rocchi, Gargano, Belec.
  • We're just over 10 minutes away from kick off so let's get some team news, starting with the hosts ROMA: Stekelenburg, Burdisso, Balzaretti, Piris, Marquinhos, Bradley, Tachtsidis, Florenzi, Totti, Lamela, Destro. SUBS: Castan, Goicoechea, Perrotta, Jonatan, Marquinho.
  • Both sides are taking this competition seriously as both Zdenek Zeman and Andrea Stramaccioni search for their first honours in Italian football. Neither have landed a single trophy yet, but either could take a big stride towards that first trophy with a result tonight.
  • So as I was saying, Juventus were denied a win in their first leg against Lazio last night thanks to Stefano Mauri's late equaliser which sees the Rome side take a 1-1 draw back to Stadio Olimpico for the second leg. Tonight though, all eyes at Stadio Olimpico will be on their city rivals Roma and their opponents Inter.
  • Hello and welcome to's coverage of the Coppa Italia Semi Final between Roma and Inter. After Lazio and Juventus couldn't be separated in last night's first leg in Turin, we are no further forward in discovering the identity of either finalist. Will the Giallorossi or Nerazzurri slap their dominance on their tie this evening? I'm Harry Slavin and I'll be bringing you all the action from Stadio Olimpico as we find out.
