Uganda's Miya completes move to Croatian side HNK Gorica from Standard Liege

Uganda midfielder Farouk Miya has completed a move to Croatian side HNK Gorica on a two-year deal from Belgian giants Standard Liege.

Loan spells at Belgian lower tier side Royal Excel Mouscron and Azerbaijani outfit Sabail FK punctuated his stint with Standard Liege.

His two-year deal with Gorica has an extension option.

“Farouk Farouk Miya (20) is the new player of our club,” said Gorica in a statement.

“Farouk is coming to us from Belgium where he played for Standard Liege and Royal Excel Mouscron. Farouk also played in Azerbaijan where he performed for FK Sabail. Welcome Farouk.”

Having featured for Uganda at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals, Miya arrives at Gorica as arguably their highest profile signing ever.

Gorica were promoted to the Croatian top-flight league at the end of last season.

Miya is also expected to continue with his key role in the national team when Uganda resume Afcon qualifiers by hosting Tanzania in September.

Uganda are on course to claiming a ticket to Cameroon 2019 after starting their qualifying campaign with a 1-0 away win in Cape Verde.
