The Nigeria Professional Football League Returns: The Challengers
1. Kano Pillars
The Kano State sponsored team hold the ace again this season by virtue of the impressive way they won the league last season. They never left other clubs in doubt regarding their last season's league ambition. The club even flew to some of their league centres to keep the players fresh and get the job done at record time too.
They are one of the country's pair of flag bearers in the Caf Champions League and they have fortified their playing staff with some tested players like Promise James and Samuel Tswanya (both from Enyimba), Bello Musa Kofarmata (Heartland) among others to solidify the squad they have. The club also laid off some players that were surplus to requirements.
They have started very well in their Champions League assignment with a convincing 5-1 aggregate win over their opponents from Central African Republic, Olympique de Bangui. Their aspiration of lifting the league crown for the successive season will be severely tested by their participation in Africa's foremost club competition.
Pillars will no doubt still be a formidable foe and will not relinquish the league title if at all that easily. They have many players that have stayed more than three seasons and continuity will not be a problem but knowing how far they will go this season will be put into the spotlight during the mid season at least.
