VIDEO: Former Tottenham defender Assou-Ekotto sees straight red for deliberate elbow

Benoit Assou-Ekotto has always been an enigmatic character, with the former Tottenham defender showing that nothing has changed since arriving at Metz.

The Cameroon international saw red for a reckless show of petulance in his most recent outing, as his Ligue 1 employers suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bordeaux.

The contest was all but over by the time Assou-Ekotto was dismissed, but his deliberate elbow means he will now be missing for future fixtures as he serves a suspension.

The 33-year-old took exception to some jostling in a defensive wall as Bordeaux lined up a stoppage-time free-kick.

With little having gone Metz’s way on the day, Assou-Ekotto swung out an arm and was immediately sent down the tunnel by an unimpressed referee.
