Despite Selangor's jubilant mood after spoiling Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT's) Super League title win by defeating the Southern Tigers 2-1 at home on Saturday, the Red Giants centre back Ugo Ukah has set his sights on another objective, with three rounds remaining in the league.

When met by Goal after the match, the former Parma defender said that although the win was important, he now wants to help his team reach the 2018 AFC Cup.

"It feels good and I'm happy. It's a tough game but we managed to get the three points.

"It's important because we are four points behind [second-placed] Kedah, we should try to finish in second as anything is possible.

"We need to believe and try, and the AFC Cup is not impossible for us," explained the 33-year old defender.

Selangor vs JDT match highlights

The Super League (MSL) gets two Asian slots this season, with the MSL winners receiving a slot in the playoff stage of the 2018 AFC Champions League, the continent's top club competition, or an automatic spot in the AFC Cup, the continent's second tier competition. The Malaysia FA Cup champions meanwhile get an automatic spot in the AFC Cup.

If JDT qualify for the Champions League by winning the playoff rounds, another AFC Cup slot will open up for the MSL runners up. And if Kedah finish in second place, the spot will go to the second runners up as Kedah have already secured their AFC Cup spot as the 2017 Malaysia FA Cup champions.

The current MSL top six teams are: JDT (45 points), Kedah (34), Pahang (33), Felda United (30), Selangor (30) and Perak (30).

The last time the Red Giants appeared in the AFC Cup was in 2016, when their campaign ended at the group stage.
