Romero yet to make Man Utd future call, but admits Boca snub was the right decision

Sergio Romero is yet to make a decision on his Manchester United future, but admits a return to Racing appeals to him at some stage.

The Argentina goalkeeper has spent much of his time at Old Trafford providing cover to No.1 David de Gea.

However, he has seen more football under Jose Mourinho this season and impressed with a healthy number of clean sheets.

Romero collected another in the Europa League final on Wednesday, but admitted afterwards that he has given no thought to speculation suggesting that he could be on the move this summer.

He told Fox Sports Radio Argentina: “I asked my agent not to tell me anything before the end of the season.”

Romero still has two years left to run on the contract he signed with United in 2015.

It may be that he is promoted to the No.1 spot at Old Trafford next season, with uncertainty continuing to shroud De Gea’s future as talk of a switch to Real Madrid refuses to go away.

While Romero is prepared to be patient for now, he admits that a return to his homeland is likely at some stage.

He added on the club that nurtured him through their youth system: “Racing is my home, I’m a fan and I wish I could return.”

It would appear that Racing would be Romero’s preferred choice were he to head back to Argentina, with interest from Boca Juniors snubbed in January.

The 30-year-old is delighted to have seen that decision vindicated as he reflects on a season that has delivered three pieces of silverware for United.

He added: “I was not wrong to stay here.”
