The 65-year-old was dismissed after a disastrous slump in form saw the Premier League champions slide into the relegation zone.

However, he is now set to return to management in France, though Nantes must await the confirmation of the deal from the FFF.

The governing body of Ligue 1 does not allow the recruitment of a manager over the age of 65, and Ranieri turned 65 in October of 2016.

Speaking to France Info, club president Ndd Waldemar Kita said: "The League agrees, I believe that only the French Football Federation (FFF) with Mr. (Raymond) Domenech is delaying the appointment a little, I do not know why.

“What we are interested in is the experience of Ranieri as a footballer and coach, since we know that he has coached the biggest teams in Europe.”
