Moussa Dembele fires Celtic into Scottish League Cup quarter-final

The 22-year-old registered his third goal of the season to help the title holders avoid an early exit from the tournament

Moussa Dembele was on target as Celtic defeated Partick Thistle 3-1 to qualify for the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup on Saturday afternoon.

After they were dumped out of the Champions League, Brendan Rodgers’ men avoided another disappointment by securing a much-needed victory against the Thistle to boost their chances of retaining the title they won last season.

Dembele who scored twice against Alashkert before the Bhoys’ exit from the European competition found the net in the 78th minute after replacing Leigh Griffiths 13 minutes earlier.

Prior to the forward’s effort, Leigh Griffiths had given the Glasgow outfit the lead but was cancelled out by Andrea Mbuyi-Mutombo.
