Moses, Mikel & Ndidi among nominees for Nigeria Pitch Awards

As well as Carl Ikeme, the Super Eagles stars have been recognised for their impressive campaigns in the season under review

Chelsea star Victor Moses and Leicester City have been named among the nominees for the Nigeria Pitch Awards.

The award sanctioned by the Nigeria Football Federation will see Moses battle Wilfred Ndidi and John Obi Mikel for the Midfielder of the Year prize.

His prowess in front of goals has not gone unnoticed as he also got a mention in the Striker of the Year category alongside Odion Ighalo and Anthony Okpotu.

Bedridden Carl Ikeme faces a stiff opposition in Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye in the quest to be named as Nigeria best goalkeeper.

William Troost-Ekong, Shehu Abdullahi and Leon Balogun square up against one another in the Defender of the Year zone.

Last season’s topscorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Anthony Okpotu must negotiate his way past Stephen Odey and Ikechukwu Ezenwa if he hopes to be named as the NPFL’s MVP.

FC Robo’s Rasheedat Ajibade propelled the Nigeria U20 women team to the 2018 Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup in France, and her exploits in the Nigeria Women’s Premier League makes her a strong contender for the Queen of the Pitch crown as well as the NWPL’s most outstanding player.

Football administrators, referees and journalists are not left out as they would be rewarded for their contributions to football in the country when the event takes centre stage in June in Lagos.

President of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, Shina Phillips is pleased with the feat of putting up a trustworthy and translucent reward system for all stakeholders in the country’s football.

“The Nigeria Pitch Awards is a platform for recognising, rewarding and celebrating talented and industrious footballers and other stakeholders in Nigerian football,” said Phillips.

“Since the introduction of the awards five years ago, it has continued to grow to become a significant and essential part of our football society.

“We thank the Federal Ministry of Sports and Nigeria Football Federation for their immense support.

“We thank SIAO Partners, Nigeria’s foremost accounting firm for being our independent vote collation body for displaying professionalism in the collation of results and the entire voting process.

“We are also buoyed by the responses we have received from sports journalists, Nigerian footballers and administrators.”
