Mexico boss Osorio not ready to decide future after Brazil defeat

Juan Carlos Osorio has said he will take some time to decide his future as Mexico manager following a 2-0 defeat to Brazil in the World Cup last 16. 

Osorio got Mexico off to a flying start at the tournament in Russia, with the team winning their first two matches against Germany and South Korea.

However, El Tri's time in Russia turned sour afterwards. 

Mexico lost their final group match 3-0 to Sweden, consigning them to second place in Group F and their ultimately unsuccessful last-16 matchup with the Brazilians in Samara. 

Osorio has been subject of criticism from segments of the Mexican press and fan base throughout his time in charge of El Tri, with many expecting his departure following the World Cup.

Following the match on Monday though, Osorio said he isn't ready to take any decision just yet. 

"The most important right now is to do things calmly," the Colombian manager said on Telemundo following the game. "Do a meticulous analysis, an analysis of the details of our process here, and surely they will make a decision, and we will as well."

He later told a news conference: "This (his future) is the most irrelevant thing right now. We just lost a very important match. It's very painful so we will wait and see what happens over the next few days, you'll see what i decide soon."

Osorio was appointed Mexico manager in October 2015, and has overseen a period of highs and lows with El Tri. 

Mexico easily qualified for the 2018 World Cup and put together strong performances at the 2016 Copa America and 2017 Confederations Cup, but those tournaments ended with embarrassing blowout defeats, 7-0 to Chile and 4-1 to Germany, respectively.

Tasked with getting El Tri to the quarterfinal of a World Cup for the first time since 1986, Osorio's Mexico side instead failed at the last-16 stage for the seventh consecutive World Cup. 

Osorio has been linked with the vacant U.S. national team position, as well as a move to Europe.
