Thomas Kristensen Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar A-League 16102016

Kristensen re-signs with Roar for two years

Brisbane Roar have tied down Danish midfielder Thomas Kristensen for another two A-League seasons.

Kristensen, 33, has started all but one of Roar's A-League matches this season, scoring four goals in 14 games.

Securing the former Denmark international to a long-term deal is a big boost for Brisbane, who have a number of key players off contract at the end of the campaign as well as coach John Aloisi.

Striker Jamie Maclaren and attacking midfielder Dimitri Petratos are amongst the players that could leave at the end of the season.

"From day one Thomas has embraced the Roar style of play and shown strong leadership both on and off the park," Brisbane's director of football Craig Moore said in a statement on Monday.

"We are very pleased that he has committed his future to the club.

"BRFC are always wanting to retain our best players and develop a group of footballers that can challenge for trophies.

"We believe Kristensen will play an important part in helping reach these goals."

Kristensen added that the decision to stay in Brisbane was not only good for him but for his family too.

"I'm really pleased to commit my future to Brisbane, it was an easy decision," he said.

"It's nice for myself and my family to know where our future lies. The focus now is to continue to perform well in the remaining A-League matches."

Kristensen leads Roar for tackles, interceptions and ball recoveries this term.
