Keane confirms interest from Championship clubs

Robbie Keane has confirmed that a number of Championship clubs are interested in securing his services and hinted that his future will be decided in "the next couple of weeks".

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool striker is currently without a club following his departure from Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy in November, and has been on the radar of clubs in England, Australia and Ireland.

A League sides Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane Roar were interested in Keane, while Preston North End are the latest club to be linked with the former Republic of Ireland international. The 36-year-old's former clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds have also been linked.

"(Watch) this space, the next couple of weeks and we will see what happens," Keane said, speaking to TalkSPORT.

"I have had a couple of offers in England and abroad. I have had to knock back a couple because it was too far away."

"I have got a few offers on the table. I have had a lot of people asking are you coming back to Leeds, Wolves etc. But you can’t go somewhere where there is not an offer.

"I definitely haven’t heard from Leeds or Wolves. There are a few other Championship clubs who I don’t want to mention at the moment."

Following his exit from LA Galaxy, Keane explained that he wanted to take some time out, but also stressed his desire to focus on "one last major challenge in club football".
