Juventus coach Allegri considering Asamoah for midfield action

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has revealed pondering over the possibility of handing Kwadwo Asamoah a role in midfield when they face Fiorentina in the Italian Serie A on Friday.

Since joining the Old Lady from Udinese in 2012, the Ghana playmaker has mainly been deployed in defensive positions at the Allianz Stadium, either at left wing-back or left full-back.

Although the 29-year-old has never hidden his desire to return to the centre of the park, he has continuously reiterated his readiness to play wherever the coach deems best for him.

“There is a chance that [Claudio] Marchisio could start but he played on Sunday and had 20 extra minutes when [Blaise] Matuidi came out,” Allegri said in his team news for the matchday 24 action.

“I’ll decide who will play after today’s training, but there’s no emergency because everyone is back.

“[Juan] Cuadrado is out which we already knew as well as [Paulo] Dybala, [Benedikt] Howedes and Matuidi. Everyone else is available so we’ve got plenty to put out a good squad.

“I’ve thought about Asamoah in midfield, but he’s more of an outside player with his speed and change of direction.

Aside from his battle for his preferred position, Asamoah, whose Juve contract runs out at the end of the season, has also been faced with limited game opportunities, prompting rumours about an eventual departure from the club by end of the campaign.

Last summer, he came close to making a switch to Turkish giants Galatasaray, but the transfer fell through as Juve failed to find a replacement.

Galatasaray remain a possible destination for Asamoah, but transfer speculations say AS Roma and Inter Milan are also interested in his signature.

The midfielder has made 10 league appearances, involving nine starts, so far this season.

Five Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia medals and three Super Cup make up his trophy haul with Juventus.
