Joseph Akpala, Knowledge Musona fire Oostende past Lokeren

Nigeria’s Joseph Akpala and Zimbabwe’s Knowledge Musona were on the scoresheet as Oostende handed Lokeren a 3-0 home defeat in a Belgian First Division A encounter on Saturday.

After suffering defeats to league leaders Club Brugge and Sint-Truiden in their last two league outings, Akpala got De Kustboys to a positive start with his first goal of the season after benefitting from an assist from strike partner, Musona.

On the stroke of halftime, the Zimbabwe international got on the scoresheet as the visitors went into the break two goals up against Peter Maes’ side.

Cameroon’s Sebastien Siani - who partnered South Africa international Andile Jali in midfield - assisted Siebe Van der Heyden for a late third to seal the victory over the Tricolores.

While Siani and Jali were afforded the full 90 minutes, Akpala and Musona were taken off in the 71st and 78th minutes respectively.

The goal was the former’s maiden in 12 appearances this season, while the latter have now found the back of the net twice in 11 league games.

The win saw Oostende move from the bottom of the 16-team Belgian topflight log to 13th place. On November 5, they welcome Zulte-Waregem to the Versluys Arena for their next league clash.
