Jonathan Walters optimistic after minor knee surgery

Stoke City forward Jonathan Walters is not concerned about his fitness ahead of Euro 2016 after undergoing minor surgery on his knee.

The 32-year-old, who was recently named the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) Senior International Player of the Year, had an operation on his knee after withdrawing from the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their friendly with Slovakia.

However, he does not believe that his knee cartilage issue will hamper his chances of going to the European Championship in France.

"I've had a similar one done before and was back playing in less than three weeks so I'll be grand," Walters told the Irish Independent.

While the striker remains optimistic about his chances of going to France in June, he is unlikely to take to he pitch for the Potters again this season.

The former Ipswich Town attacker has scored five goals in 24 league appearances this term.
