The Spurs striker admitted that the players were devastated following the 2-1 extra time defeat to Croatia

Harry Kane has revealed his utter disappointment following England's semi-final defeat to Croatia.

The Three Lions took the lead through an excellent free kick from Kieran Trippier, but Croatia levelled through Ivan Perisic to send the game to extra time. Poor defending allowed the Croats to score the winner with Mario Mandzukic reacting quickly to finish past Jordan Pickford.

England will now play Belgium in the third-place playoff on Saturday, but their players are devastated by the fact that they came so close to playing in the final.

Spurs striker Kane is leading the race for the Golden Boot, but believes there was more that England could have done in the semi-final as he tried to come to terms with their defeat.

"It's tough, we're gutted, we worked so hard, the fans were amazing," Kane told ITV

"It was a tough game it was a 50:50 game, I am sure we will look back and there's stuff we could have done better. It hurts, it hurts a lot but we can hold our heads up high. We got further than anyone thought we would have.

"Until they scored we were under the cosh and when they scored we picked up again.

"It has been great to get to this stage, we've done everyone proud, but we've fallen a bit short. It hurts."

England's playoff with Belgium will take place on Saturday, 14 July in St Petersburg.
