The Atletico Madrid forward hit the century mark against Espanyol, becoming only the second player from France to do so

Antoine Griezmann has hit the 100 goal mark in La Liga, becoming just the second Frenchman to do so behind Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

The striker's 100th goal in the Spanish top flight, a cool finish from a tight angle, handed Atletico a 1-0 win over Espanyol.

Benzema brought up three figures in 202 appearances compared to Griezmann's 247, while Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were both considerably quicker to their century – taking 154 and an astonishing 92 matches respectively.

The 26-year-old's exquisite left foot is responsible for 69 of the goals, alongside 20 headers and 11 right-footed shots.

Well-documented problems with penalty kicks are highlighted by the fact Griezmann has only scored once from the spot in LaLiga, while 14 of his goals have come from outside the box.

Griezmann made his La Liga debut in August 2010 with Real Sociedad, scoring his first top-flight goal in October of that year. While he only netted 40 goals in 141 games for Real Sociedad, he upped his strike-rate considerably to register 60 in 106 under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid after moving to the club in July 2014.
