Fifa Ranking: Nigeria end 2017 in 51st place

Nigeria’s senior national team has dropped a place to 51st in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday.

The Super Eagles gathered a total of 640 points to fall to number ninth in Africa behind Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Congo DR, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Ghana.

Senegal end 2017 as Africa’s best team with 884 points while the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia end as runners-up after gathering 838 points. Egypt are third with 805 points.

Germany claim the team of the year award for 2017. The world champions, who qualified to defend their crown in Russia by winning all ten of their qualifiers and have been unbeaten in 15 matches in 2017, succeed Argentina and Belgium, who were ‘Team of the Year’ in 2016 and 2015 respectively. 

The next Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 18 January 2018.
