Despite Scotland’s failure to qualify for Euro 2016, Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has revealed to Goal that he still hopes to travel to France this month in order to support his team-mates in the Republic of Ireland squad.
Adam and his compatriots finished fourth in their group, pipped to third spot by the Irish, who saw off Bosnia-Herzegovina in the play-offs.
Given Jon Walters, Marc Wilson, Shay Given and Glenn Whelan will thus be at the Euros this summer, Adam intends to throw his support behind Scotland's Celtic cousins.
"I'll try and spend a couple of days in France," the former Liverpool playmaker told Goal. "It’s right on the door step and I’d like to see the Irish lads from here [Stoke] do well.
“It’s great for them to get a chance to go to the Euros and play; they deserve it. They got the results that mattered in qualifying.
"I'll be rooting for the home nations, of course, but some of the Ireland lads are my pals, so I'll be keeping a closer eye on them."
Adam featured in both games against Ireland during qualifying, as the Scots triumphed in Glasgow before picking up a point in Dublin.
However, a shock loss in Georgia ultimately cost Gordon Strachan's side dearly, allowing 'The Boys in Green' to set up a play-off against the Bosnians.
Walters netted both goals in Ireland’s second-leg win over the Eastern European outfit and Adam admits that he was enthused by his friend's success.
“I was delighted to see my buddy Jonny [Walters] score twice against Bosnia and I’m equally delighted for the other Stoke lads who have done a great job too," he added.
