It was not very easy to choose the Nigeria Player of the week this week because of the surrounding circumstances but Odion Ighalo nicked the award ahead of Sunday Mba, John Ogu and John Utaka.

Ighalo scored the goal that brought Granada to the La Liga and may have scored the goal that will keep them there for another season. His four league goals - from which three were scored in February have gotten the Andalusian side two wins and two defeats.

Sky Sports said; "A solitary goal by Odion Ighalo saw off Malaga and handed Granada a huge boost in their bid to avoid relegation from the Primera Division."

He memorably scored against Barcelona on February 16.
Ighalo is seen as a modern day knight amongst the fans of his club having helped the team to consecutive promotions along with the goals he is now scoring to keep them up and the goal against Malaga would have further cemented that status.

Congratulations to Odion Ighalo, Goal.com's Nigeria Player of the Week winner!

The Shortlist

John Ogu - Academica

Ogu had been out of action for seven weeks and his last league appearance was against Estoril on March 17.

But he rose off the bench last Saturday in the 75th minute to get the crucial goal that may have saved his team from relegation.

And that was his first league goal and what a crucial time to score.

Sunday Mba - Enugu Rangers

After a considerable amount of time on the sidelines due to a possession wrangle between Warri Wolves and Enugu Rangers, Mba made his debut for Rangers in Libolo last Saturday.

Mba got to Libolo just before kick-off but went on to score the Flying Antelopes' consolation goal. his last match was against Kenya for the Super Eagles on March 23.

John Utaka - Montpellier

He last played against Valenciennes on April 6 and he returned to action to help them to a win after three consecutive defeats.

Utaka is leading the charge as he tries to help the defending champions get a berth in next seson's Europa League. He has so far scored five goals.

Danny Shittu - Millwall

Danny Shittu was named Millwall's 2012/13 Player of the Year.

The Super Eagles defender led his team to the FA Cup semi-final where they lost to Wigan and scored goals in the process.
