The Makurdi based youngster has relived the tension amidst soccer followers in the country hours before the quarter final clash which the Eagles later won
Lobi Stars' striker, Anthony Okpotu has stressed that the Super Eagles victory over The Elephants of Cote D'Ivoire indicates that Nigerians should always rally support for their representatives whatever the case may be.
Okpotu told Goal.com that the country's mood ahead of the Sunday's quarter final clash was that Nigeria would be put to the sword by Cote d’Ivoire but he was elated as the Eagles won.
He counselled Nigerians to believe in their own and not pass a wrong message to the outside world that we have a divided house ahead of a crucial game.
"We are in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations but we have so many positives to take from this surprise victory,” Okpotu told Goal.com.
“I called it a surprise because of the calibre of the opposition we faced and defeated over 90 minutes. We need to believe in our own and support what we know belong to us throughout irrespective of how daunting it may be."
On the display of Godfrey Oboabona and Sunday Mba who started the epic clash, Okpotu said he was not surprised at all at their display because he has always said that talents abound in the Nigeria Premier League(NPL) but square pegs in round holes has always been our bane.
He tipped the Sunshine Stars of Akure and Enugu Rangers' players to shine even brighter as the competition continues stating that their impressive outing will further open more opportunities to other home lads in the future.
