Former Nigeria left back, Ben Iroha has said that striker Emmanuel Emenike would score the needed goals against Ethiopia in Tuesday’s final Group C match to give the Super Eagles a quarter final ticket at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Iroha, who watched the two matches the Eagles played that ended in draws against Burkina Faso and Zambia, is confident of victory against the Walya Antelopes come Tuesday.
“The good thing the Eagles have on their side is the fitness level and the terrific form of Emmanuel Emenike,” Iroha told Goal.com.
“I can assure you that the player would definitely gun down the Walyas Antelopes on Tuesday. Emenike is improving with every match and his terrific form would earn Nigeria the all important victory against Ethiopia as well as a quarter finals ticket of the Afcon,” Iroha said.
He also advised that the Eagles must deliver the necessary passes to the point man in the last group match against east Africans who came to the tournament with the largest fans.
“In the first match there was no sufficient supply to Emenike who has been a revelation in this tournament. So if he gets the needed supply like he actually got in the match against Zambia, the Eagles would definitely be in the quarter-finals.
“Hope is not lost yet for Nigeria in this competition. The Eagles have played beautifully in the first two matches but were not lucky to get the needed victories in the said matches. But what we have to understand is that all nations are playing well in the competition and for a country to get a draw in a match is not a bad result.
“The match against the Ethiopians would decide the fate of our team and I am very sure that the boys won’t fritter this opportunity to make it to the next stage of the competition.”
He, however warned, “Ethiopia must be taken seriously and the boys must play as if their lives depend on this match. I mean they have to take it like a cup final. And by so doing Nigeria will make it to the quarter final stage.”
