Ademola Adesina: Lack of concentration ruined Super Eagles against Burkina Faso
The one time current senior national team head coach has pointed out that the team's momentary loss of concentration proved costly against the Burkinabes
Former Green Eagles' defensive midfielder, Ademola Adesina has tasked Nigeria's senior national team to work on their concentration level if they hope to qualify for the next round of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after the team conceded a last minute goal to end their opening Group C tie against Burkina Faso in a 1-1 draw.Adesina, a veteran of three Afcon finals in 1982, 1984 and 1988 in Libya, Ivory Coast and Morocco respectively, said that the Eagles almost had the three points in the bag before their momentary loss of concentration proved to be too costly for them.
The defensive midfield maestro opined that all hope is not lost if the Eagles could work on the lapses noticed against the Stallions and come out smoking against the Copper Bullets of Zambia on Friday.
Adesina admitted it would be hard to blame his former team mate and current chief coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi since he got his tactics correct during the match, he enjoined the Nigeria's representatives to put their acts in order and forget about seeking personal glories for the interest of all.
"I watched the match and to be frank with you, it was so painful to lose a match under that kind of condition. It was only barely 10 seconds or thereabouts to end the encounter but still, the Eagles couldn't protect their lead.
"We still have the quality to advance form that group and to do that, we have a lot of work to do. We need to work on the defence and further task our players to be committed for the entire duration of the game."
Adesina scooped two silver medals with the then Green Eagles after being part of the squad that lost in two consecutive finals(1984 and 1988) to Cameroon 1-3 and 0-1 in that order while the team was eliminated in the first round in 1982 after winning the title barely two years earlier on home soil in Lagos.
