Nigeria may replace Austin Ejide by Daniel Akpeyi over thigh injury

The undisputed understudy to Vincent Enyeama may not make it to South Africa for the Nations Cup because of an injury he copped in the Cape Verde friendly
Austin Ejide may have to be replaced by Daniel Akpeyi of Heartland FC of Owerri, following the result of the scan that was ordered on the injury the Israel-based goalkeeper sustained against Cape Verde on Wednesday in the 0-0 draw with Nigeria.

Ibrahim Gyaran, Super Eagles team doctor, had said that the coaching crew will be informed about the result of the scan on Friday and the media spokesperson for the team had revealed also that Akpeyi and Bright Dike have been retained in camp.

The scan results show that Ejide sustained a muscle tear, which will take at least three weeks to heal, which will effectively rule him out of the football tournament.

The Super Eagles are in Faro, preparing for their last warm-up match against Sparta Rotterdam before moving to South Africa where they kick off their tournament with the match against Burkina Faso on January 21.
