Enugu Rangers midfielder Chinedu Sunday, who just received his first Super Eagles' invitation in the build up to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations slated for South Africa, has described it as a dream come true.
Sunday played a pivotal role in the Flying Antelopes' superlative campaign last season in both the league and the Federation Cup but had been consistently snubbed by the country's national team selectors in the past despite his eye catching impressive displays.
The player in a chat with Goal.com has expressed his gratitude to God and to the Stephen Okechukwu Keshi led Super Eagles' technical crew stating that now that he has got his most cherished call up to don the jersey of his fatherland, he would like to seize the opportunity with both hands.
The left-footed midfielder vows to make his inclusion count by being first time fortunate to nick a surprise place in the Afcon-bound Eagles.
"I thank God for this invitation. It is to Him solely that I shall give all praise to. I also use this medium to appreciate the head coach of the Super Eagles for his unrelenting effort to build a strong home based team,” Sunday told Goal.com.
"I have been waiting for this invitation for quite some time but I didn't allow it to weigh me down in any way because I know that when God says it is my time, no one can stop me. I focused more on my game and allowed God to do the rest on my behalf.
"Now that I have the cherished call up, I will not want to trade it for anything. It is a dream come true to be selected by one's country's national team and I will always cherish it. I will now like to storm the Eagles' camp with all focus and alertness so that I could pick a spot in the AFCON bound Eagles. It is not how far but how well. I am determined to prove my worth to the technical crew," the player said.
Sunday has played over two seasons with Rangers and was the club’s highest goals scorer in the 2011 Federation Cup campaign where he plundered four goals before his the Flying Antelopes were eliminated by Bayelsa United 1-0 in the quarter final.
He was among the 23 home lads called up for the commencement of preparation for the 2013 Afcon and he is expected to arrive the Bolton White Apartment lodge of the team on Sunday December 16th ahead of intensive training which begins a day later.
