Steve Clarke says the Baggies will have adequate cover for his players that will be going to the African showpiece tournament in January
West Browich coach Steve Clarke expects his in-form striker Peter Odemwingie to make the Nigeria squad that will play at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nation in South Africa.
Odemwingie has put in some eye catching performances this term which the Baggies coach believes that the Super Eagles cannot do without.
However, Odemwingie’s departure for up to a month will leave the club without one of their most trusted forwards which Clarke hopes to fill with another good player.
"If Peter continues in the current form he's in, I'd think Nigeria would select him,” Clarke was quoted by the Irish Herald.
"He has been playing really well for us, he has been fantastic.
"If Nigeria want to go with their best players, I'm sure Peter would be in that squad for the [Africa Cup of Nations].
"But we have cover for Peter - and [Congolese Youssouf Mulumbu’] absence as well. I've said that all along if people get called up, we have the squad to cover him."
Nigeria are drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.
