Stephen Odey says he is not worried about being snubbed for a call-up to the Nigeria senior side for upcoming friendlies.
The brace saw Odey extend his lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League goalscorers' chart as he reaches the ten-goal mark. And he feels his exploits will open national team opportunities for him.
“Well, I am not bothered not to have been invited to the national team yet because I know that I will get a look on at some point," Odey told Goal.
"It’s very important that I focus on my performances every time; the most important thing is for me to score goals each time I play. When I am consistent with the goals I am sure that the invite will come and hopefully like I have always done, I will rely heavily on God’s grace to make Nigeria proud."
“I’d like to score goals aplenty; I don’t have any sort of target this season. I really want to continue to enjoy myself doing what I love to do.
"I want to score as many goals as I can this season. Most importantly I want to help my team to greatness. We are a group of best friends at MFM and what you see us do on the pitch is as a result of what we do outside of the pitch."
With regards to his team, Odey believes that the Olukoya Boys will continue to challenge for a win each time they play.
“There are 20 teams competing in the Nigeria Professional Football League so that makes it a very tough contest. We shall continue to challenge for a win in every match we play. We aren’t done yet; it’s still early in the season so we aren’t carried away just yet," he added.
"It was a very tough match to have achieved what we have done so far, it won’t be easy until the end of the season but we shall continue to rely on God’s grace to see us off ahead of every match."
