Returning after three years in continental wilderness, skipper of the Peoples' Elephant wants to start up their Champions League campaign with a win in front of home fans in Aba
Captain Chinedu Udoji says he is very confident Enyimba will get all the three points over CAF Champions League opponents, Anges de Notse of Togo when both teams clash at the Aba Township Stadium.
Enyimba, who won the CAF Champions League back-to-back in 2003 and 2004, will host the Togolese side in the first fixture of the continental competition on Sunday.
Defender Udoji said that he and his teammates are determined to ensure the club starts their Champions League campaign with a victory over the visitors.
“Our target is to win by as many as four goals and I’ll like to play a decisive role given the go ahead by the coaches in the victory campaign,” said Chinedu.
On chances against their opponents, Chinedu said, “We’re putting everything right to ensure we secure a gallant win on Sunday even though we don’t know much about the visiting side.
“I don’t think it does us any good worrying our heads over who but to strengthen our resolve to win well so as to make the reverse fixture a bit easier.
Enyimba won the Glo Premier League pre-season Super Four tournament in Abuja last month following a 3-0, 2-0, 1-0 victories over Bayelsa United, Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars respectively.
He believes the club’s exploit at the Super Four pre-season tourney have prepared them adequately to take on their opponent from Togo in the Preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
“The pre-season tourney has actually boosted our confidence and prepared us for the quality of opposition to face the Togolese side,” he said.
The Aba Millionaires will be away to the Togolese side in a week’s time at the Stade Anges de Notse for the reverse fixture.
The winner of the two-legged encounter will progress to the round of 32 of the money-spinning competition.
