LOBI STARS 1-0 HEARTLAND
Lobi Stars of Makurdi edged Heartland of Owerri 1-0 at the Chief Emmanuel Akume Atongo Stadium, Katsina Ala in a matchday 27 Glo Premier League tie to storm out of the relegation zone.
The Makurdi eventually shot into the lead in the 17th minute through Douglas Achiv whose 25 yards' free kick evaded all the Naze Millionaires' players including their goalkeeper, Ebele Obi for the only goal.
Before the goal, both sides lost many scoring chances with Lobi's Lekan Agunloye and Bright Ejike for Heartland the reported major culprits.
Lobi went into halftime with a goal up and at the restart of the second half Lobi changed their strategy which brought about the best in the players.
They held more possession and Agunloye who didn't lift up to expectation was fantastic in the second half causing lots of havoc for the visitors.
Lobi's boss, Dominic Iorfa dedicated the win to their teeming fans who came out in their numbers to support their darling team to victory.
The club's media officer, Jack Moses Ekwe Ekwe quoted Iorfa thus:"We got another three points in our quest to improve our standing on the league table. This win has sent us a bit up and we shall approach the midweek game with all seriousness.
"This win is for our supporters and fans who defied the weather to throng the stadium to support us. They were marvellous and this win is for them.
"We had over 16,000 fans here today(yesterday) it showed that we have our people behind us.
"We shall continue to strive for the best and ensure that Lobi stay beyond this season in the elite division. We are going to Rangers to nick the maximum points so that our relegation worries will be a foregone conclusion," Iorfa was quoted to have said.
Lobi are now 15th on the log with 35 points from 27 games and they visit wounded Rangers on Wednesday while Heartland have slipped into the drop zone. They have 34 points to be placed 17th from 27 matches. They have a tough game on Wednesday at home to Kano Pillars.
WIKKI TOURISTS 2-0 SUNSHINE STARS
At the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, Wikki Tourists sent Sunshine Stars back to Akure empty handed with a 2-0 win in a matchday 27 Glo Premier League tie.
A brace from Alaba Johnson in the 37th and 90 minutes gave all points to the Tourists.
The loss confirmed the Akure Gunners' inconsistency in form with the club only performing at home while a shadow of themselves away from home.
Wikki are now 13th on the log with 36 points from 27 games while Sunshine are 11th with 37 points from same games.
Wikki visit Sharks on Wednesday while Sunshine will welcome Bayelsa United in a must win encounter at the Akure Township Stadium. Both are matchday 28 ties.
AKWA UNITED 1-0 3SC
At the Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa Utd's Ukeme Davies' 57th minute goal stabbed the heart of 3SC of Ibadan and the result sent the Oluyole Warriors to the relegation zone. They are now 18th with 33 points from 27 ties while Akwa United improved to 12th with 37 points from 26 games.
Akwa United have another home tie against ABS while 3SC will welcome El Kanemi Warriors to Ibadan. Both matches come up on Wednesday in match day 28 clashes.
DOLPHINS 2-0 ENUGU RANGERS
The Port Harcourt team added to the misery of the Flying Antelopes after they inflicted a 2-0 win to their guests at the Liberation Stadium.
Dolphins put themselves in the right stead when Austin Ekpoma shot them in the lead inside 15 seconds into the match with a nice finish. They evaporated all attempts by Rangers to equalise when former Flying Antelopes' striker, Ifeanyi Egwin nailed his erstwhile club's coffin with the back breaking second goal in the 75th minute.
Dolphins are 10th with 39 points from 27 games while Rangers are eighth with 39 points from same number of matches.
Rangers play at home to Lobi while Dolphins travel to Lafia to face struggling Nasarawa United on Wednesday in matchday 28 matches.
KADUNA UNITED 2-0 NEMBE CITY
Ndubuisi Ekweruibe's two goals sealed a memorable 2-0 home win for Kaduna United in their game against Nembe City at the Kaduna Township Stadium.
He got the goals in the 32nd and 54th minutes to send his club to sixth on the log with 41 points from 27 games. Nembe City must hope for the best in their home game against Kwara United on Wednesday if they do not want to flirt with relegation zone. They are 16th, the last spot before the relegation zone with 35 points from 27 games. Kaduna United will visit Warri Wolves.
KANO PILLARS 1-0 SHARKS
Gambo Mohammed's 73rd minute goal handed all points to Pillars and a chance to return to the summit of the NPFL after the club conceded the spot to Enyimba last week.
Eye witness accounts said that Sharks played the game of their lives and deserved at least a point.
Pillars are first with 45 points from 26 matches and may extend the lead if they neat Akwa United on September 3rd in the re-arranged game billed for the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Sharks have a date with Wikki Tourists on Wednesday while Pillars have a tough road trip to Owerri as guests of Heartland.
BAYELSA UNITED 2-0 ABS
Two late goals from Adamu Mohammed and Obinna Njoku in the 84th and 91st minutes gave Bayelsa United leverage over troubled ABS at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
ABS' technical crew and players were placed on half salaries and three game ultimatum by the club's management. They have started on a losing note and must win the next two at Akwa United and at home to 3SC.
For Bayelsa United and their coach, Isa Ladan Bosso, the maximum points has taken them to second on the log and level on point with Pillars but with inferior goals difference and a game more to the Kano side. They have 45 points from 27 games. Bayelsa United must get a positive result at Akure against Sunshine Stars on Wednesday if they are to maintain their current spot.
GOMBE UNITED 2-0 NASARAWA UNITED
The Savannah Scorpions stung the Lafia side 2-0 to hand Kadiri Ikhana a losing debut at the helms of Nasarawa United.
Ikhana, former Super Falcons and Kwara United coach replaced Alphonsus Dike last week after the latter was sacked over string of poor results.
Bilyaminu Aliyu scored his first professional goal for Gombe United when he got the opener in the 22nd minute before ex-Kano Pillars ace,Habibu Inusa got the second in the 50th minute.
Gombe United are sixth on the log with 40 points from 27 matches while Nasarawa United are still rooted to the relegation spot with 33 points from 27 games.
Gombe United will take their search for road points to Aba to face wounded Enyimba this mid week while Nasarawa United have a must win encounter at home to Dolphins.
KWARA UNITED 1-0 ENYIMBA
Okey Odita came back to haunt his former club, Enyimba when he nodded the only goal of the match for the Afonja Warriors at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin on Saturday evening.
Kwara United maintained their fourth spot because of El Kanemi's emphatic victory at home to Warri Wolves.
The Samson Unuanel led Kwara United are level on same point and goals difference with El Kanemi at 44 and +10 respectively but they are behind because the Maiduguri side have netted more(35goals) to Kwara United's 27 strikes.
The loss sent the Peoples Elephant down to fifth on the log with 42 points from 27 matches. Nembe lurk around for Kwara United on Wednesday while Enyimba will seek a big win at home to Gombe United to return to the top of the table on goals difference again.
EL KANEMI WARRIORS 3-0 WARRI WOLVES
The Seasiders played the game barely 48 hours after their gruelling Federation Cup semi final clash with Akwa United which they won 2-1 and the effect of the tie had its toll on Warri Wolves. They fell 0-3 at the El Kanemi Stadium to fresher El Kanemi who had a whole week to prepare for the clash.
The Zachary Baraje led team are now third on the log with 44 points from 27 games while Warri Wolves are seventh with 39 points from as many matches.
El Kanemi visit 3SC in Ibadan while Warri Wolves will pray for maximum points at home to Kaduna United this Wednesday.
