Despite his side’s defeat, the Nigerian-American midfielder believes his strike will inspire him to a greater height in the Azerbaijan Premier League
The AZAL no 10 converted a penalty for his side on stoppage time to have something to cheer about after a first half brace from Araz Abdullayev had guaranteed the hosts victory in the week 26 clash.
In a chat with Goal from his base in Baku, the Nigerian claimed he has derived lots of positives from his strike despite his team been on the losing side.
“Last night’s goal was an important one because it shows the team that we do not have to always give up but always strive to fight until the last kick of the game,” Will John told Goal.
“It feels good always scoring, so I will be striving in the next game to put my team in the lead first though winning is the most important target,” he concluded.
This result put AZAL on the eight position of the Azerbaijanis topflight league after gathering 26 points from 26 games.
The 28-year old player has made 31 appearances for the Baku based outfit this season. Will John will be recalled represented the United States at the 2005 World Youth Championship staged in Holland.
