Nigerians Abroad: Olaitan grabs a brace, Odemwingie also on target

The duo were the only Nigerians to find the back of the net in Europe as the Super Eagles captain made an impressive debut for the Canaries against Man City

Joseph Yobo made an impressive debut for Norwich City as they forced Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road. 

The former Fenerbahce star was rock-solid in defence as his partnership with Sebastien Bassong thwarted the attacking forays of Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko and David Silva. 

The Canaries are 16th on the English Premiers League log with 25 points from same number of games. 

Osaze Odemwingie was on target for Stoke City as they played out a 2-2 away draw with Southampton on Saturday afternoon at St Mary’s Stadium.

The striker got his side's first goal in the 38th minute after he made an intelligent run off the right flank and Adam found him with an outstanding through pass and he shot past onrushing Boruc.

He was cautioned in the 90th minutes to cap his impressive displays. The game was his second for the Potters since he joined from Cardiff City. 

Sone Aluko came on as a second half substitute for Hull City as they recorded a 2-0 away win at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland. Aluko had been out for the Tigers due to injury and missed the last 13 games of his side in the process. 

The game against Sunderland was his ninth in the English Premier League with his only goal of the season coming against Newcastle. 

Victor Anichebe was on for 90 minutes as West Brom lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park. Anichebe, who was on target in their 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool last weekend, was unable to add to his two goal tally for the season. The game was his 15th of the season and his side’s 10th defeat. 

Mikel Obi was left on the bench for 90 minutes as Chelsea spanked Newcastle United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. An Eden Hazard hat-trick ensured the Roman Army returned to the summit of the English Premiership. 

Victor Moses was not listed as Liverpool spanked Arsenal 5-1 at the Anfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Moses who is on loan from Chelsea has played 13 times for Brendan Rodgers' team in the English Premier League this season. 


Nosa Igiebor came on as a second half substitute for Didac as Real Betis were drubbed 5-0 by Valencia in the Spanish League at the Mestalla.

The former Lillestrom and Hapoel Tel Aviv player has now played eight Spanish league games with a goal to his credit.

Ramon Azeez helped his club Almeria cruise to a 2-0 victory over Athletico Madrid in the Spanish La Liga. The game was the 18th appearance for the former Flying Eagles midfielder in the Spanish League this season. 


Ogenyi Onazi was on parade for Lazio in their 0-0 draw against AS Roma in the Italian Seria A. The Super Eagles star came on for Alvaro Gonzalez in the derby della Roma.

Ogenyi has played 18 Italian league matches for his side this season and has two goals to show for it.

Obinna Nsofor made a losing debut in his return for Chievo Verona in the Seria A. The former West Ham player replaced Simone Bentivoglio in the 62nd minute but his presence counted for nothing as they lost 3-0 to Udinese at the Communale Friuli stadium.


Vincent Enyeama was spectacular in goal for Lille in the French League as his side defeated Sochaux 2-0 at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium on Saturday evening.

The game was Enyeama’s 24th league appearance for the Ligue 1 outfit and kept 15 clean slates in the process.

Sunday Mba was on parade for his struggling Ligue 2 outfit CA Bastia as they crashed 4-1 at home to Châteauroux.

Mba was cautioned in the 71st minute of his fifth appearance for Les Noirs since joining from Enugu Rangers.


Michael Olaitan was on target twice for Olympiakos in their 5-0 defeat of Viera in the Greek league. Olaitan was an instant hit for his side as he came of the substitute bench make an assist and grab his team’s third goal in the 70th minute. He got his second on stoppage time for his seventh goal of the season.


Efe Ambrose
 was on the losing side with Celtic as they bowed 2-1 to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup. The Super Eagles defender was on for start to finish of the encounter.

The Nigerian international who has one goal to his credit has featured in all the games the Hoops have played this season.


Imoh Ezekiel was fielded in Standard Liege’s 2-0 win over Zulte-Waregem in the Belgian league. The former 36 Lions striker picked up a yellow card in the game and was substitute in the 40th minute for Igor de Camargo.

The game was Imoh’s 26th of the season with nine goals to his name.
