The Super Eagles striker continues to remind the national team coach of his goal scoring prowess with another goal for his Spanish side

ENGLAND



Shola Ameobi came in as a second half substitute in Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat of West Ham United at the Upton Park on Saturday. The lanky Super Eagles striker is yet to get on the scorers’ sheet despite featuring in 15 Premier League games. The victory ensured that his side ended their three-match losing streak in the English top flight. 

John Mikel Obi came in for Oscar in the 68th minute as Chelsea pounced on Manchester United 3-1 with Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto’o bagging all the goals for Jose Mourinho’s men. It was his 16th appearance for the Roman Army in the English Premiership and 25th in all competitions in which he has scored twice.

 was on the bench for the entire game as Liverpool played a 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa on Saturday. The Nigerian who boasts of 13 appearances for the Reds since his arrival from Chelsea on loan last featured when his side defeated Oldham 2-0 in an English FA Cup fixture. 

Peter Odemwingie was not listed as Manchester City spanked Cardiff City 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium. The former West Bromwich Albion forward boasts of 15 English Premier League games with a goal to show for it. Also Sone Aluko was missing with injury as Hull City lost 1-0 to Norwich who moved five points clear of the drop zone. Aluko has played nine games in the league providing two assists and a goal.
 

FRANCE

Newly signed Elderson Echeijile watched from the stands as his team AS Monaco defeated Toulouse 2-0 at the Municipal stadium. The Nigerian defender recently signed a four and a half year deal with the big money-spending Ligue 1 side.

Echiejile is expected to make his debut on Wednesday against Monts Or Azergues in the Coupe de France.

SPAIN

Ikechukwu Uche scored his 12th goal of the season in Villareal’s 2-0 thumping of Almeria that had another Nigerian player Ramon Azeez.

A third minute goal from Uche helped the Yellow Submarine on their way before a late penalty goal from Soriano cemented the victory over the opponents..

His tally now puts him in third place on the Liga goal scorers chart behind Cristiano Ronaldo who is in front on 21 goals and Diego Costa with 19 goals. He also holds the record for the highest scoring Nigerian in Spain after breaking Finidi George’s haul of 11 goals with Real Betis in the 1990s.

Nosa Igiebor was not listed for Real Betis as they bowed 5-0 to Real Madrid who powered their way past his side. The former Hapoel Tel Aviv attacking midfielder has played seven games and scored once for his side.

Odion Ighalo who scored his first league goal of the season at home to Atletico Madrid was not listed as Granada were forced to a goalless draw against an Osasuna side who stretched their unbeaten league run to five Primera Division matches.

ITALY

 

Ogenyi Onazi was sent off in his 17th Serie A appearance as his team, Lazio brushed aside Udinese 3-2 on Sunday. The Nigerian got cautioned twice within the space of five minutes [49 & 54]. The midfielder who is on the radar of Everton of England has two assists to his name.

Joel Obi was missing as Parma defeated Chievo Verona 2-1 on Sunday. Obi, on loan from Inter Milan, has had the misfortune of being injury prone and has played only four games since joining from the Milan based team on a season loan deal in the summer.

BELGIUM

Imoh Ezekiel played all 90 minutes for Standard Liege in their 2-0 home win against KV Oostende. It was Ezekiel’s 23rd game of the season. The former 36 Lions player has bagged eight goals scored so far.

Standard Liege are top of the leaue table with 33 points from 20 matches and Ezekiel has scored six league goals in 14 appearances.

Michael Uchebo was introduced in the 57th minute as Cercle Brugge fell 0-3 at home to Lokeren. It was the tall Nigerian striker’s 21st of the season with four goals to his name.
