Nigerians Abroad: Emenike and Ezekiel end 2013 with goals

Emmanuel Emenike is finally justifying the huge outlay that Fenerbahce forked out to get him from Spartak Moscow
Mikel Obi came on for Chelsea in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. Mikel replaced Frank Lampard at the start of the second half and helped the Blues to the victory that sees them nestled in third place going into 2014. Victor Moses did not play for Liverpool as a condition of his loan agreement from Chelsea.

West Brom ended the year with a 3-3 result away to West Ham but Victor Anichebe was not fit to even make the bench. Anichebe has played 10 times for the Baggies with one goal to show.

Newcastle lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal with Shola Ameobi coming on for the last 16 minutes. The Nigeria international came on for Vernon Anita as the Geordies were chasing an equalizer. Ameobi is yet to score this season after 13 league appearances.

Peter Odemwingie was an unused substitute as Sunderland came from two goals down to snatch a draw at the death against Cardiff. Odemwingie has one league goal to his name in 14 league appearances.


Emmanuel Emenike ended 2013 on a scoring note as he bagged one of the goals for Fenerbahce on Sunday as the league leaders dismantled Kayserispor 5-1. Emenike scored the fourth goal for his side in the 70th minute to make it eight goals in 16 league appearances.

Michael Eneramo was not named in the Besiktas team that lost 1-0 away to Gençlerbirliği on Friday. The Nigerian striker has played just four league games this season after his transfer from Sivasspor with one goal.

Godfrey Oboabona  played all 90 minutes in Rizespor’s 1-0 loss away to Elazigspor. The newly promoted team started the season well but has fallen down the table in recent weeks. They finished 2013 in 15th place.

Taye Taiwo completed another 90 minutes for Bursaspor as they earned a point away to Gaziantepspor on Saturday. Bursaspor are 10th on the league table with 24 points from 17 matches. Joseph Akpala played 73 minutes for Karabükspor when they lost 3-1 away to Sivasspor on Sunday. Akpala has scored four goals in 11 league appearances.


Imoh Ezekiel got back in the scoring when he knocked two goals past Kortrijk in a 5-1 away win. Ezekiel's last goal for Liege came on October 27 against Anderlecht. The 19-year-old scored the second and third goals for his team as Liege took a 3-0 lead into half time. The goals made it eight in 21 league appearances, as he looks set to equal his 16-goal haul of last season.

Michael Uchebo played all 90 minutes as Cercle Brugge were hammered 3-0 away by OH Leuven. Uchebo has scored career high four goals in 19 league appearances.
