There was a harvest of goals by Nigerians all over the world at the weekend as European leagues click into second gear


ENGLAND


Sone Aluko(pictured right) scored his first goal of the season, a likely contender for goal of the season but it was his all-round display that caught the eye. The left-footed Nigerian created the first goal for Robbie Brady in the 26th minute and scored the winner in the 76th minute with a guided half-volley that went in off the post.

Aluko had his first attempt at goal in the eighth minute but it was blocked. His next attempt in the 30th' minute was saved by Tim Krul. Aluko had 79% pass accuracy from 50 touches on the ball. He had a total of four shots and successfully completed one dribble while committing three fouls.

Mikel Obi scored his first ever league goal for Chelsea as the Blues rebounded from a four-match winless run to beat London neighbours Fulham 2-0 on Saturday.

Mikel scored the definitive goal in the 84th to hand Jose Mourinho and fans at Stamford Bridge a collective sigh of relief. The midfielder had 92% pass accuracy from 99 touches on the ball while committing one foul. He also attempted two shots, from which he scored one and successfully completed four tackles.

Victor Moses made his Anfield debut on Saturday against Southampton but it will be one he would want to forget in a hurry as they lost 1-0. It was Liverpool’s first loss this season and it was a tame performance by all the Liverpool players including the Nigerian.

Moses had only one attempt on goal – in the 37th minute but Artur Boruc saved his left footed shot and he had 85% pass accuracy from 55 touches on the ball. He committed two fouls and also completed the most number of dribbles on both sides – six.

Victor Anichebe came on for Nicolas Anelka in the 68th minute as West Brom beat Sunderland 3-0 to get their first win this season. Anichebe assisted Morgan Amaltifano for the Baggies’ third goal in third minute added time as West Brom moved to 14th position with that win.

Peter Odemwingie made his debut for Cardiff City against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday but it ended in a 1-0 home loss to the newly promoted side.

Odemwingie came on in the 65th minute for Frazier Campbell and almost assisted Aron Gunnarsson for a goal three minutes later when he drove to the byline and crossed to Gunnarsson who ballooned the chance from the center of the box. A minute later, he attempted his first shot, which flew wide.

Odemwingie in the 81st minute again passed to Gunnarsson, who shot wide. Cardiff were then punished for all the missed half chances as Paulinho scored in the third minute of added time to condemn the Blue Birds to their first home loss.

FRANCE


Vincent Enyeama(pictured) kept his fourth clean sheet for Lille on Saturday away to bottom-placed Sochaux. Lille won 2-0 to move to eighth position on the Ligue 1 table with 10 points from six matches.

The Super Eagles number one made six saves to preserve the clean sheet after last week’s 2-0 home humbling by Nice.

Enyeama made a third minute save from Emmanuel Mayuka and another in the 14th minute from Roy Contout. He made another save in the 31st minute from Cédric and another in the 57th minute from Sébastien Roudet

In the 64th minute, he saved a shot from Thierry Doubai and completed his excellent day’s work in the 78th minute when he saved Roy Contout’s right footed shot from the center of the box.

BELGIUM

Imoh Ezekiel (pictured) scored his third league goal on Sunday for Standard Liege when they beat Lokeren 2-1 at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne. Ezekiel scored the first goal of the encounter in the 18th minute but Lokeren equalized in the 38th minute through Hans Vanaken. Michu Batshuayi then grabbed the winner for the table-toppers in the 45th minute in a frantic first half. Liege have now won their first eight league games to remain on top of the league table with 24 points. 

Michael Uchebo endured another torrid and barren day in the office as Cercle Brugge were beaten 2-0 away from home by Sporting Charleroi. Uchebo played all 90 minutes and he is yet to get off the mark this season.

Kim Ojo came on in the 82nd minute for J Gorius as Genk held on to a 0-0 away to Waasland-Beveren on Sunday. The 24-year-old former Brann striker has played only eight minutes in the league this season.

RUSSIA

Obinna Nsofor started his first match for Locomotiv Moscow away to Dynamo Moscow on Saturday and Locomotiv came away with all three points as they won 3-1. Nsofor has played two matches this season and both ended 3-1 in favour of Locomotiv. In all, the Super Eaglenhas played 52 minutes this season. He was replaced at the start of the second half by Maicon and he is yet to open his goals account. He scored twice last season in 26 league games.

Dele Adeleye made his league debut for Anzhi Makhachkala on Sunday away to Volga but it ended in a 2-1 defeat. The defender played all 90 minutes as he continues his return to full match fitness.

CSKA Moscow lost in the league for the first time this season – a 3-0 thrashing by Spartak Moscow, who by the victory went top of the league table on head-to-head matches as both teams have 20 points.

Ahmed Musa played all 90 minutes and the loss followed on from their 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Uefa Champions League last Wednesday.

UKRAINE

Brown Ideye (pictured) was Dynamo Kiev’s saviour on Sunday as he scored the only goal in their clash with Karpaty. The Nigerian, who has had to play second fiddle to Dieumerci Mbokani scored in the 84th minute to hand his side all three points.

Ideye had come on for Sergiy Sydorchuk in the 82nd minute. His compatriot Lukman Haruna was not listed for the match.

Michael Babatunde scored his second goal in consecutive matches to help his new team, Volyn to a 1-0 home win over Illichivets' last Friday. The Super Eagles fringe player scored in the 13th minute and he was substituted by Cameroonian, Eric Matoukou in the third minute of second half added time.

TURKEY

John Utaka was absent when Sivasspor were humbled 2-1 at home by Kasimpasa, for whom Kalu Uche is still absent. 

Isaac Promise played all 90 minutes in Antalyaspor’s 2-1 loss away to Eskişehirspor on Saturday. Promise has scored one goal in four league appearances.

Emmanuel Emenike and Joseph Yobo were not listed for Fenerbahce as the Yellow Canaries pounded Elazıgspor 4-0 on Saturday. Emenike is yet to score in the league after his return from Russia.

Taye Taiwo is not having it easy with Bursaspor as they lost for the third time in five league matches away to Rizespor on Sunday. Rizespor were without Uche Kalu and Godfrey Oboabona, who were both not listed in the match-day squad. Oboabona is yet to make his debut for the newly promoted side.

SPAIN

Nosa Igiebor was not listed for Real Betis as they drew 0-0 at home with Granada. Odion Ighalo was also not listed for Granada as he is serving a suspension for the red card he received against Espanyol last weekend.

Ikechukwu Uche was an unused substitute in Villarreal’s away game to Celta de Vigo on Sunday. Villarreal drew 0-0 to continue their impressive start to the season after their promotion. Uche has played 128 minutes spanning four matches and has scored once.

Almeria drew 2-2 at home to Levante on Saturday with Ramon Azeez an unused substitute. The former U-21 captain has played just 17 minutes for the newly promoted team this season.

ITALY

Ogenyi Onazi was an unused substitute on Sunday for Lazio as they lost the Rome derby to Roma 2-0. Onazi has played two matches; against Chievo and Udinese, both at home and they have been wins.

Joel Obi made his debut for Parma on Sunday away to Catania and helped his side get a point in the 0-0 draw.

Obi, on loan from Inter Milan has had the misfortune of been injury prone but he came on for Marco Parolo in the 64th minute. He played just five games for inter last season.

Serie B

Nnamdi Oduamadi played 45 minutes for Brescia in their 2-1 loss away to Crotone while Osariemen Ebagua was on show for all 90 minutes for Spezia in their 1-0 home win over Palermo.

Ebagua has scored once in five appearances while his compatriot, Ezekiel Henty was an unused substitute and is yet to feature for the club after his loan move from AC Milan.

CHINA

Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored three times for Guangzhou R&F but still ended on the losing side. The former Super Eagles striker scored in the sixth minute through a penalty, in the 46th minute and again another penalty in second half stoppage time.

But away side Guizhou Renhe scored five times to condemn the Nigerian to a loss. Aiyegbeni has scored 12 goals in 24 league appearances.

Peter Utaka played all 90 minutes for Beijing Guoan when they lost 1-0 away to Tianjin Teda on Saturday. Utaka has scored 10 goals in 22 matches this season, but he has had three since joining Guoan from Dalian Aerbin in July.

Former U-21 defender Gabriel Melkam played all 90 minutes for Qingdao Jonoon as they lost 1-0 away to Shanghai Shenxin on Sunday. Melkam has scored one goal this season.

NORWAY

John Chibuike (pictured) scored his sixth league goal for Rosenberg against Haugesund but were eventually held to a 1-1 result at home on Friday. Chibuike scored in the 21st minute while Haugesund equalized with six minutes left on the clock but Rosenborg still top the table with 49 points from 24 matches.

Aaron Olanare scored his third league goal for Sarpsborg 08 in their 3-0 win over Tromso on Sunday. The 19-year old striker scored his side’s third goal in the 48th minute. Sarpsborg remain bottom of the league with 23 points from 24 matches though Olanare has played only eight times.

Daniel Chima scored for Molde as they beat Sandnes ULF 4-1 on Sunday. Chima scored the second of the four goals in the 14th minute. That was Chima’s seventh goal in 22 league appearances.

Leke James scored the first goal in the match away to Odd but he and Aalesund were then hammered with five goals to make the score line 5-1 in favour of Odd. James has scored nine league goals in 23 appearances.
