David Luiz is 'sure' Brazil can win the World Cup

The Chelsea defender has put the disappointment of a 2-1 defeat to England behind him and insists that he is confident the Selecao can lift the trophy in their home nation

Chelsea defender David Luiz is "sure" that Brazil will win the World Cup in their homeland in 2014, despite Wednesday night's defeat to England.

Goals from Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard cancelled out Fred's effort to give the Three Lions a morale-boosting win at Wembley against a Selecao side that was captained by Luiz.

Despite his disappointment at defeat, the Blues' man is confident that Brazil will hit their straps by the time next year's tournament rolls around, and has put Wednesday's loss down to a lack of fitness in the players who play in Brazil being in the midst of their off-season.

"Of course I want to win the World Cup next year and I know, for sure, that we will win," Luiz told reporters.

"It was a great night for me to be captain here because the English people have been a big help to me since I came to play in this country.

"But although it was a great night for me, it was not a great result.

"England's level of fitness was different to Brazil's because for 40 per cent of our team just starting their season, so you need to take account of that in this game."
