Spartak Moscow agree transfer for Rubin’s Salvatore Bocchetti

The 26-year-old Italian had been linked with a move back to Serie A, but has elected to stay in Russia, and will officially join the capital club once he passes a medical

Spartak Moscow have announced the signing of centre-back Salvatore Bocchetti from Rubin Kazan, subject to the passing of a medical.

The Italian had been expected to move back to his homeland, with both Juventus and Napoli both interested, but the player has elected to remain in the Russian Premier League.

“Should he pass a medical examination at the beginning of next week, the Italian will sign a contract with Spartak," a statement on the capital club's website read.

The 26-year-old started his career at Ascoli, and after spells at Lanciano and Frosinone, made his name at Genoa.

He made the move to Russia in 2010, and made over 50 appearances for Rubin.

Since making his international debut in 2009, Bocchetti has won five caps for the Azzurri.
