The ex-Real Madrid youngster insists he remains fully committed to the Trotters, and, despite a shaky first half to season, has Premier League promotion firmly in his sights

Bolton Wanderers defender Marcus Alonso has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Swansea City during the January transfer window.

With the 22-year-old’s contract set to expire in the summer, Michael Laudrup’s side are rumoured to be preparing a bid to bring the ex-Real Madrid youngster back to the Premier League, with first-choice left-back Neil Taylor still sidelined with a broken ankle.

However, Alonso has rejected talk of a move to south Wales, or any other club, insisting that, if he is to return to the Premier League, he fully intends to do so with the Trotters.

"I don't read anything [about transfer speculation]. My head is in Bolton and I just want to get back with Bolton to the Premier League,” Alonso told The Bolton News.

"As for Swansea, I have not spoken to anyone and from the club, and they haven't told me anything.

“I am happy now. The manager is doing a great job and, as I said, if we win two or three games, we will get our confidence back and the fans back.

“The rest of the season will be better and we will be in the fight to be in the Premier League.”

Alonso has established himself in the Trotters' side in recent weeks and is determined to remain a key part of Dougie Freedman's plans.

"Now Stephen [Warnock] has gone, it is my chance and I want to keep my place. I will keep working hard,” Alonso said.

“I am really pleased as it is the first time I have played four games in a row. Everything is going all right and I am just trying to keep going.

"It has been hard with so many injuries, but football changes quickly and now I am really happy. I am working hard, as I have over the last three years, to stay in the team. That is my main focus.”
