The Atletico Madrid chief has little doubt the newly signed Spain international has what it takes to succeed at the club to make the fans forget about the Colombian striker
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo believes David Villa is the perfect replacement for Radamel Falcao.
Falcao left the club for Monaco earlier this summer for a transfer fee in the region of €60 million.
The Vicente Calderon side look set to secure the services of the 31-year-old Villa after agreeing a deal worth €5.1 million with Barcelona on Monday and Cerezo has little doubt the Spain international will be an instant hit at Atletico.
"It is not easy to replicate the goals of Falcao, but Villa can compensate very well," Cerezo told Radio Nacional de Espana.
"He has many seasons of football left and is a born goalscorer.
"Villa will hope for everything because it is important to be selected for Spain.
"We expect him to target a lot of goals.
"The price we have paid is the lowest possible. We are particularly pleased.
"We have beaten many Spanish and foreign teams to Villa.
"It is important business that we have done.
"Villa is a player we have wanted for a long time, and that is why it is a great satisfaction.
"We are happy and I think the fans are going crazy because they thought he was going to go to an important English team."
