The Blaugrana coach singled the forward out for praise after the former Valencia star scored twice in Wednesday's 3-1 Copa del Rey win over AlavesBarcelona boss Tito Vilanova praised the improving fitness and form of David Villa after the Spain star scored twice in Wednesday's 3-1 Copa del Rey victory over Alaves.
The former Valencia man missed much of last season with a broken leg, but his coach believes that he can now hit top form, having recovered fully.
"He’s doing better each day. We’re all very pleased with him," he told reporters after the game.
"His injury was very complicated and he worked hard throughout the summer. He’s a player that can score and it’s important to us that he’s part of the team.
"It’s always good to have players that can take free kicks. They earn you valuable points by year’s end."
The trainer also praised the versatility shown by summer signing Alex Song, who has been used in a number of different positions since arriving at Camp Nou.
“[Song] understands our tactical system. We've tried to teach him to play in two different positions, and maybe that’s confused things a bit, but we’ll try to make him focus on the holding midfielder position."
"He’ll also learn how to play as a full-back [and] he is very able and willing.”
