The 20-year-old has repeatedly said that he intends to stay at Santos until after the 2014 World Cup, but Edmilson feels that a move to Barcelona would benefit his career.
"Neymar would fit in at Barcelona, no doubt," Edmilson stated to Com Radio.
"He has things of both Ronaldinho and of [Lionel] Messi. To make history, he needs to move to Europe, though."
The 35-year-old Edmilson then went on to praise both Messi and AC Milan defender Thiago Silva, who has also been linked with a move to Barca.
"Messi is an intelligent kid. He learned from Ronaldinho, Deco and [Samuel] Eto'o, and patiently waited for his moment.
"For me, Thiago Silva is the best centre back in the world. If possible, I'd recommend him to join Barcelona."
Thiago Silva is unlikely to leave Milan any time soon, though, with Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani insisting that he is not for sale at any price.
