Puyol turns down offers from Russia & UAE - report

The Barcelona defender has turned down the opportunity to continue his playing career abroad as he looks to remain with the Blaugrana until he hangs up his boots
Carles Puyol has rejected the chance to leave Barcelona for a move to Russia or the United Arab Emirates this summer, El Mundo Deportivo reports.

The experienced defender had reportedly received two lucrative offers from unnamed Russian clubs, plus one offer from an UAE side.

However, the 34-year-old has thanked the aforementioned teams for their interest, but affirmed that he has no intention to leave Barcelona.

The centre-back recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee due to an injury, and will require six weeks to recover.

Puyol will miss Euro 2012 due to his physical problems, but he has stressed more than once that he is keen to continue his playing career until he turns 40. He has a contract with Barcelona until June 2013.
