Dolphins will return to Port Harcourt on Saturday after spending two weeks in the South eastern town of Nnewi for pre-season camping.
The team that departed Port Harcourt with about 45 players will return much smaller as players, especially those from the open screening session that eventually did not fit into the plan of the coaches, were asked to leave.
China Acheru, media officer of the club, however says that eighteen players from last season’s team of thirty five will be returning with the team from Nnewi.
“The number of returning players in the team will increase to twenty two when our foreign based legion of Ortega Deniran, Seydou Abuu, Owusu Addae and Boris Konan rejoin the team,” Acheru said.
“There are also players who have joined us from Enyimba, Sharks and Lobi Stars but discussions are still on with their former clubs and we will keep the names as close to our chests as possible.
“The intensity of training at Nnewi was good for the team and any player that returns on the club’s bus would have in two weeks shown to the coaches that he knows the business required this season.
“Dolphins have always been an ambitious club and the target every season is always to get a trophy. Hopefully, the club will get one this season.”
Aside the foreign based contingent, players like Sunday Rotimi, Austin Brown, Victor Babayaro, Austin Brown, Jeleel Ajagun, Chidi Osuchukwu and Ifeanyi Egwim have decided to remain with the club.
